EGEA/ELEMENTARY PLANNING MEETING ADJUNCT DUTIES Elementary teachers perform many necessary adjunct duties outside the instructional day that are essential in maintaining a safe, enriching and academic school environment. As our district has become larger, more diverse and complex, the number and scope of teacher adjunct duties has similarly increased along with other demands. There are now many district committees, learning modules (e.g., Trainer of Trainers) and additional instructional obligations that are part of a teacher’s responsibilities. The following guiding principles have been developed in order to focus school sites on addressing the increased time demands for adjunct duties. These guidelines are an effort to bring the scope of adjunct duties into line with what teachers feel is both necessary and fair, while remaining consistent with the EGEA contract. The expectation is that staff and administration will work collaboratively with these guidelines to identify equitable adjunct duties which support their school culture and programs. School sites are encouraged to take into account any funding sources at their disposal when determining how the school culture would be supported by adjunct duties that may be unique to the site (e.g. Band/Choir; Athletic Coordinator; 4H Sponsor). All sites should have an annual review of adjunct duties to develop consensus, determine the purpose of the duty and if it is relevant to the site’s needs. Site administrators have final approval of all adjunct duties based on the guidelines and expectations that follow. School sites should determine their adjunct duties based on the following categories: Districtwide AN EVENT OR COMMITTEE

School Culture AN EVENT OR COMMITTEE

DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS

Adjunct vs. Stipend Some adjunct duties could be considered a paid position (e.g. Chorus) and therefore, could be counted as either a stipend position and/or an adjunct duty.

Adjunct duties shall not be used to supplant a viable, paid position, (e.g. a roving substitute).

Adjunct vs. Voluntary An event or committee that would be strictly voluntary on the part of the teacher and not be considered an adjunct duty.

Staff and administration will work collaboratively to identify equitable adjunct duties which support their school culture.

The weighting should consider: • # of hours • Evening • Weekend • Overnight Reasons for Exclusion/Reduction from Adjunct Duty could include: • Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) • Combination Classes • Rover Teacher
