Athletic Program Board Report MISSION STATEMENT “The Neosho Athletic Program in its pursuit of Athletic Excellence will focus on developing true student athletes who value teamwork, citizenship, and character. Our coaches, staff, and athletes will represent and serve the R-V School District and community in a way that will model hard work, perseverance, and a winning desire, creating an environment that is safe, powerful and positive.”
Highlights from each sport: Boys Basketball -Head Coach-Jason Horn. Asst. Coaches-Tony Branscum, Josh Depoe. The boys team has begun its season 1-0 with a win over Joplin. They are currently in the Carthage Boys Tournament and will play again on Friday, 12/3 against Monett. The V/JV team has 22 members and the freshman team has 15. Girls Basketball -Head Coach-Grant Berendt. Asst. Coaches-Matt Hixon, Melissa Clark. Lady Wildcats have started the season 2-0 with wins over Seneca and Joplin. Eighteen girls are participating in either varsity or JV. They will play at Mt. Vernon on 12/4, and will play in the Joplin Girls Tournament Dec. 10-12. Wrestling -Head Coach-Jeremy Phillips. Asst. Coaches - Cody Crocker, Tyler Gordon, Josh Sonis. Neosho wrestling will begin their season on 12/5/15 at home with the 28th annual Neosho Tournament. This year the tournament includes 10 teams. The varsity and JV team includes 24 individuals including 7 returners who competed at the 2015 State Tournament.
Neosho Holiday Classic: Boys Tournament includes 16 teams from four states. It will begin on Monday, December 28 and conclude on Dec. 31, 2015. Girls Tournament includes 8 teams from 2 states. They will begin play on Tuesday, December 29 and conclude on December 31, 2015. The slam dunk and 3 point contests will be held on the evening of Dec. 30, 2015. Tickets will be available for sale at Neosho High School and the Neosho Chamber of Commerce sometime in the next week.
Benton Elementary December 2, 2015 Attendance: 93.89% Enrollment: 4 95 1. Spotlight ● We had over 100 moms attend our Marvelous Mom’s Pizza Kickoff Night. These moms will be volunteering in the building helping with different activities and any work teachers might need. ● Mrs. Baker is working with 1st grade teachers to implement the new Apprenticeship in Literacy strategies. ● 1st grade students went to the Jefferson Street Campus for Reading Rocks. They had a great time. ● We held our annual Veteran’s Day program along with our 3rd grade music program. ● 3rd and 4th grade students attended the High School play, The Little Mermaid. ● We held our annual Book Fair. It was one of the most successful fair in years. We had a big turnout for our Family Chili Supper night. ● The Character Kid’s Club is cleaning up our front entrance. 3. Celebrations ● Kindergarten and 1st grade each held Thanksgiving Feasts. Kindergarten also had their annual Pow-Wow. ● We recognized 27 students for showing Cooperation and Teamwork during our monthly Character Assembly. 10. What I did to make a difference in students, or learning or building climate this month? ● I met with each grade level to discuss school climate. I received some excellent feedback. ● I organized 25 Thanksgiving food baskets for Benton families in need. Cornerstone Bible Church donated the baskets. ● I began participating in a book study, Apprenticeship in Literacy, with Mrs. Baker and 1st grade staff. ● Mr. Daugherty is transporting 2 students for several dentist appointments. The family has no transportation. ● I attended Adaptive Schools training. ● Mr. Daugherty and I did learning walks with each grade level. There was great discussion after each walk.
Neosho School District Buildings & Grounds Department December 2015 Board Report
The Buildings & Grounds Department has been busy this month with several programs and events district wide. The grounds crew has been moving and setting up risers and other equipment all over the district and community for several programs and performances that our students perform over the holiday season. Moving the senior citizen banquet this year to the High School worked out great for the Buildings & Grounds Department. The parking was better, there is additional restrooms available for the patrons to use at the High School, and the overall setup was much easier. The Maintenance staff has been busy on many projects throughout the district. They have been currently working on the Holloway house getting it ready for special services to start using next semester. With the colder temperatures the maintenance staff has been busy keeping the heating units up and running. Buildings & Grounds Department staff will be training on December 22 on bloodborne pathogens. This has been a very exciting year in the department with so many projects finishing up and new ones starting. It’s truly been exciting to see all of the improvements that have been made throughout the district over the last few years.

Spotlight of the week in the building Our annual Veterans Day Program was held in November. This is a tradition that is very meaningful at Carver. The Junior ROTC came for the presentation of colors. The food service department and Family Market served the meal. It was a great program. PTO held the 5th annual Carver Crafts Show in November. It was another success. They raised over $9000.00 for our school. Mrs. Cummins, fourth grade teacher, was recognized at the SWC Celebration of Schools for being the Elementary Teacher of the Year at Neosho. It was a well-deserved honor. Mrs. Baldwin, fourth grade teacher, sponsored our first math club for students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th who qualified and wanted to compete in a math competition. There were over thirty students who participated. The recording studio in the library is ready. Students are going to make their commercials to advertise their product for Carverville in the studio. The students are collecting non-perishable items for the Food Basket Brigade and bringing in change for Shop with a Cop.

10. What you did to make a difference in students, or learning, or building climate this week? We have completed our fifth round of observations. I organized Secret Santa in the building. The teachers drew names and were given a poem which told them what to get their recipient and they will do this the last week we are here before Christmas Break. I organized a progressive dinner we will be having to celebrate the holidays at the end of the month. There are rooms in the building designated as the stops and specific grade level teachers provide the meals at each location. This is a great way to enjoy our holiday meal together.
Central Elementary Date: 12-1-15 Attendance: 95.85%- November Enrollment: 263 1. Spotlight of the month in the building: ★ The school carnival was a huge success! PTO organized and staffed the carnival on November 6th. There were games, prizes, food and treats for Central students. ★ On November 10th the third great gave a wonderful performance at the Civic Center. Thank you to Jenny Davis and the third grade teachers for their hard work. 2. Percentage of students who scored proficient or mastery on a standard: ★ 2nd Grade-RI2.1 Ask and answer such questions as who, what, where, when, why, and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in text. The baseline data for October is 75% of students at mastery. This is a current goal in 2nd grade. The teachers will continue to monitor progress. 3. Celebrations: ★ 100% attendance building wide for parent-teacher conferences. The Central staff worked hard to make sure that every parent was able to meet with the teacher and discuss student progress. ★ The high school ROTC visited Central and shared a wealth of knowledge on Veteran’s Day. ★ Kindergarten has been learning about recycling in their classrooms. They have decided that they will begin a recycling program of plastic Walmart bags. The students will be collecting, counting and finding ways to recycle or reuse the bags that they collect! 4. Concerns in the area of academics: ★ Each grade level has created SMART goals that they are monitoring. During collaboration time each grade level discusses the goal and ways to continually make progress toward their goal in the classroom. 5. Staff/building concerns: ★ There was a definite concern at Central about the proper procedures during and IOC drill. Shawn Dilday and Dustin Whitehall came to Central on November 4th to run an IOC drill alongside Mrs. Cawley. After the drill they debriefed and re-wrote the procedures list which Mrs. Cawley then reviewed with the staff as a whole. This will continue to be monitored and improved through additional drills during the year. 6. PBIS/Character update: ★ PBIS-During collaboration on November 20th, the staff met as a whole to complete a refresher of Tier 1 and Tier 2 of the program. This was a great opportunity to answer questions or concerns about the program. We will continue to work on this throughout the building to ensure fidelity. ★ Character- During the month of December Central will be participating in Shop with a Cop and the Food Basket Brigade. During January students will be working with the building character committee to help plan activities for the Great Kindness Challenge. 7. PLC update: ★ The PLC team met and discussed the BIP plan and the ways that we can reach these goals as a committee. 8. Progress toward BIP: ★ Starting in December the Lion’s club members will be coming to the building to read to students. This is a great way to bring the community into the building. Our first reader will be Marianne Taylor on December 8th. She will be reading to the kindergarten classes. ★ During our faculty meeting this month I introduce the staff to Plickers. This is an app that will allow the teachers to complete quick formative assessments in their classroom. I plan to bring a piece teachnology to each faculty meeting throughout the year. 9. Tracy Clements is leading the Student Ambassadors again this year. The Ambassadors are running Wildcat Rally on Mondays and the school store on Fridays. Students will also serve as greeters in the mornings and will also be giving new students a tour of the building. Additionally, a group of students are going to begin working with Mrs. Sims to create the yearbook and possibly a school newsletter.
District Grant Report Neosho R-V School District Board of Education
On Friday, November 20th Ellen Dillon from the Action for Healthy Kids scheduled a site visit to view the Grab-n-Go breakfast program at Benton Elementary. The District received $18,000 from Action for Healthy Kids last June to support the Grab-n-Go model. Breakfast Average Daily Participation (ADP) rates have shown tremendous increases since implementation of the Grab-n-Go breakfast model. In October, 2014, our district ADP was 1,083. In October, 2015, our district ADP was 2,369. We have more than doubled our breakfast participation district wide. Breakfast participation has even increased at the high school, which has always been a difficult age to reach for breakfast. In October, 2014, we served an average of 85 high school students per day. In October, 2015, this average has increased to 342 high school students daily. High school breakfast participation has increased over 400% from last year. Due to this increase in district breakfast participation we have hired three additional staff and extended the hours of five employees. th The department catered two events recently. Clark’s Cemeterian Dinner was November 14 , and Senior th Citizen Appreciation Banquet was November 20. The Clark’s dinner was held at the high school and the food service staff did a wonderful job, as always. We heard all positive feedback on the food and the service. The Senior Banquet was a district-wide effort. Without the help and cooperation of everyone in the district it would not have been possible. On November 20th , we fed 674 senior citizens, and 91 students, staff and administrators, for a total of 765 dinners. At the same time, a skeletal crew at all schools served 2,159 lunches to students. This gives us a grand total of 2,924 lunches and 2,058 breakfast served on that one day.

We find it interesting that on almost all of the grade levels the students are struggling with the same skill and sometimes excelling at the same skill. This gives the teachers great information as far as what to go back and reteach/reassess. Celebrations: a. We had our second round of learning walks and used a new form as well as made it to special classrooms and worked to allow teachers to see the teachers in their own grade level teach when possible. Great feedback on the new form and the walks in general! It is a great day of celebrations. b. The Veteran’s Day assembly was wonderful and well attended. Huge thanks to PTO for providing the meal. c. We are preparing to donate, purchase, wrap, and deliver gifts to just over 36 Goodman children - 12 families! I have been working with my building LINC team (leadership team) and the rest of the committees to work on our building mission/vision. Through discussion, we decided to ask the students and parents what they thought and desired to incorporate that into our building vision/mission when we create it and here are the results from the parent survey. Activities: The Choir will hold its Christmas Concert on December 7th at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. The Band will hold it’s Christmas Concert on December 8th at 6:30 in the cafeteria. The Fall Musical “The Little Mermaid” was a HUGE hit. All three shows sold out which prompted them to have a 4th unplanned showing on Saturday evening. It too almost sold out!!
NHS Bright Futures Rise had a busy November. Students served dinner at the Crosslines Homeless Shelter and sponsored the NHS Penny Wars which raised $1020 which will be split with Shop With a Hero and Bright Futures. The Key Club members have been extremely busy volunteering this semester. On November 24th, they cooked at the new shelter and served over 140 people. They have also signed up for bell ringing to help the Salvation Army numerous times in December. The school is currently having a competition to support the Food Basket Brigade. The winning 7th hour class will have a pizza party on Friday, December 18th. Culture/Climate: This month, we have not had collaboration opportunities to be able to send postcards, emails, etc. to students and parents that would be worth reporting. I will provide information in January that combines the months of November and December. Classroom/Professional Development: Sophomores have been exploring career interests thru Missouri Connections by taking interest inventories, work value and skills tests. Mrs. Fausett and Ms. Jones attended “FlipCon” which was an opportunity to visit a school that utilizes “flipped classrooms”. They are working on ways to incorporate this into their classroom and will share the information in upcoming department meetings. 12 teachers from the high school are attending Day 3 of the Write Tools writing workshop December 3rd.
December Board Report Neosho Jr. High School 7th Grade Enrollment: 358 7th Grade Attendance Rate: 94% 8th Grade Enrollment: 318 8th Grade Attendance Rate: 94% Academics: Teachers are working to finalize a unit of instruction to submit for the year. We have experienced some intermittent issues with the template causing some frustration among teachers. All ELA and History teachers are completing training on The Write Tools. This is the district adopted writing program for grades 7-12. The teacher immediately started implementing the process at both grade levels. For our November learning walks (7th grade was on Nov. 16 and 8th grade on Nov. 23) we observed implementation of The Write Tools in an ELA and History class. This is the 2nd time we have done learning walks. I have found them to be very informal with great conversations with the teachers. The teacher feedback has been very positive as well. 7th Grade History Data: 330 Seventh graders were assessed over the standards: 1. (5.D & 5.I Grade 7) Explain how a given environment affects human activities, and how human activities affect the environment. 2. (5.J Grade 7) Use geography to interpret the past, explain the present and plan for the future. Of those students, 281 (85%) mastered the first standard by scoring 80% or higher on that portion of the assessment and 276 (84%) mastered the second standard by scoring 80% or more on that portion of the assessment. For the students who did not meet the first and/or the second standard, they will be given reteaching materials and be reassessed over those standards. 7th Grade Math Common Assessment Data: 7.NS.A.1 (Fraction addition and subtraction): Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions; Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line diagram. Mastery: 79% Non-Mastery: 21%
7.NS.A.2 (Fraction multiplication and division): Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division and of fractions to multiply and divide rational numbers. Mastery: 68% Non-Mastery: 32% 8th Grade Math Data: Algebra I: Writing and solving ratio and proportion equations: 78% Mastery Solving absolute value equations and inequalities: 93% Mastery Pre-Algebra: Performing transformations on polygons: In the beginning, only 4% of our students showed mastery of this subject. At the end of the unit, 33% of our students had reached the 80% required for mastery. Math Lab: At the beginning of the unit, 11% of our students already had mastery of this subject. By the end, 44% of our students had reached the 80% required for mastery. 8th Grade ELA: Several 8th grade students had their Thanksgiving essays printed in the Neosho News-Dispatch last week. Writing Club members are participating in National Novel Writing Month. 8th Grade Band Data: The 8th grade band had our first major scale test during the month of November. This test was comprised of the three most common key signatures in band (Concert B flat, Concert E flat, and Concert F) The bands scores are as follows: 48 total students 42 students scored 90% or above, 1 student scored 80-90%, 5 students scored 70-80% 7th Grade ELA: Seventh grade English Language Arts has been working on implementing the Write Tools program in our classrooms. In November we were reading current news articles and working on our summary skills using the Write Tools methods. This fell in line with the Informative Writing section of our curriculum and will
be implemented cross curricularly after Christmas break. We have now moved onto our Figurative Language unit and will be starting literature circles. 8th Grade Art Data: 8th Grade 2D finished a unit based on the element of Value. Students were quizzed on how to shade a sphere as if to show the illusion of depth/mass and then label the vocabulary terms they were required to know. (Highlight, Core Shadow, Cast Shadow, Reflection) This technique, along with shading, helped them create a large shaded sphere using real world objects. (example photos are attached) 8.I.1.A. - Create even, continuous, and graduated tones using pencil or colored pencil 8.II.1.C. - Identify and use a range of values to create the illusion of form 86% of all 8th grade 2D students scored 80% or higher on quiz 14% of all 8th grade 2D students did not master this content
Other JH Random Items Students of Good Character: Ms. Demm and Mrs. Bayless (7th grade math) have given character awards to students in their cat and math classes to award the student that best demonstrated that months character trait. Penny Wars: The JH ran a penny wars competition for 2 weeks in November. The money raised intended to donate to Shop With a Cop. We ran a contest between CAT classes. We announced places daily to both grade levels and students at both grade levels were free to sabotage teams at the other grade level. At the end of the competition we had raised $1484. The JH will be presenting a check for $1500. We were very proud of our students for giving and participating in this community fundraiser. The winning CAT class was to win a pizza party. Participation was so fierce we will be rewarding the top 2 CAT classes with a pizza party and 3rd and 4th place with a donut party. Canned Food Drive: The canned food drive is schedule for 9 days after Thanksgiving Break. The winning CAT class will work at the distribution center on Friday, Dec. 11th to help sort food and then they will have lunch at Wendy’s. South Elementary School Every student matters. Every Moment Counts! Date: 12/2/2015 Submitted by : Lee Woodward Attendance: 94.7 Enrollment: 277 1. Spotlight of the month in the building-Third grade held a wonderful Veterans Assembly. We enjoyed the ROTC helping out during our daytime assembly and had a wonderful turnout for our evening assembly. It has been wonderful to have the capability to have programs in our gym with the new sound system. 2. Percentage of students who scored proficient or mastery on a standard-There are some concerns regarding performance on our third grade common assessment in one classroom. Teachers have begun to plan together and stagger lessons one day behind to help identify what the higher level class struggles with to help with the class who teaches the lesson the following day. One of our rooms has a higher number of Special Education and ESL but we still feel several of the regular education students are not performing at the level they should be. We are trying to identify the essential parts of the lesson that would benefit students the most. 3. Celebrations-Kindergarten held a feast for Thanksgiving. First and second grade held a combined Thanksgiving feast. We had great support from parents helping with donation for the activity. First graders were pilgrims and second graders were indians. This has become a tradition that our students enjoy. 4. Concerns in the area of academics- After attending the UALR Conference in Little Rock Arkansas I am very excited where we are headed in the area of Literacy. I think that a refocus on literacy skills is just what is needed to reconstruct our reading practices in Neosho. It was a great conference and I look to send even more staff this next summer. 5. Staff/building concerns-We are excited at the prospect of having our Literacy library on our stage in the main building, however it poses another issue of space for ESL, Speech, OT/PT sessions and where to place our after school program. When we receive our Reading Recovery position next year it will cause us to be limited by at least one classroom. I am the last person to want a trailer on campus, however, if we did it would be classroom space for ESL, Speech and therapy. We currently have a classroom that holds three people teaching three different things. Adding a reading recovery teacher in the same room is not an option. 6. PBIS/Character update - We met with a Character Representative to help us become better trained on how to apply for recognition and the process to incorporate some of what we are doing in our building with PBIS into our 11 Principles for Character . 7. PLC update- Mrs. Crane and I attended training in November and our entire team will participate in a team training next week. 8. Progress toward BIP-All staff are completing Learning Walks with Building administrators to help collaborate and brainstorm some new ideas. This addressed a need identified by teachers in our beginning of the year survey. They indicated they would like more time set aside to observe other teachers. 9. this week? Learning walks went great. Mr. Daugherty and myself walked with groups of teachers from each grade level and observed rooms and then collaborated with the group on ideas and practices. There were a lot of great discussions and ideas generated.

Special Services Board Report December 2015 The High Needs Fund Application has been submitted to DESE for reimbursement in the amount of $371,222.31. This is not a mandatory report or application, but a voluntary opportunity districts have to be able to recoup excessive costs to the district when meeting a student’s IEP/disability needs that exceed the ADA per pupil by 3 times the amount. At the NCIS Behavior Center, we will transition our 30th student back to their home building January 5th. This figure is from last year through this year after we changed our procedures to an ABA Precision Teaching program with Crowder College partnership.This is an increase over the first 2 years of the program where we transitioned less than 10 students back to their buildings. This increased success allows building level classrooms to be able to continue with their learning/teaching while we remediate and increase behavior skills with more disruptive students. A strong transition back to their home classroom has been a key component to set up both the student and the teacher for successful integration. This team is an outstanding group of educators. Upcoming trainings for staff include the following; BIST (Behavior Intervention Support Training) is a targeted approach to tier 2 level behaviors in the classroom. The area LACE group that we are a part of is bringing this training to our area and Neosho will host the workshop. This will take place over 3 Wednesdays in February and will include both gen ed and spec ed staff that are on the tier 2 PBIS teams. CoTeaching training will be held in district on February 5th. Both General Education teachers and their partner Special Education teachers will attend this training together to increase their skill level of this teaching method.
Technology Department
November was a fairly quiet month for the Technology Department. We are working through work orders mostly at this point and preparing for the the fall testing cycle and looking towards the spring. We have been fairly busy helping Eric McCune with SAP on the technology aspects of the new Junior High. In fact, Randle Griffin has been working tirelessly to insure that all technology needs are meet PRIOR to going out to bid. We feel this is very important and we’ve given great detail to the design team as we know that this new building will be a model of new teaching spaces. We’re very much looking forward to breaking ground and working with the construction crew and their subs in making this a premier teaching space in SW Missouri! I have also been recovering from spinal fusion surgery which took place on November 16th and would like to call out my entire staff for stepping up and helping with day to day operations in my absence. I simply couldn’t ask for a better staff. We have many exciting projects on the horizon, including projects that can move forward due to our eRate approval for this year in Category 2 expenditures, which covers equipment rather than services. Transportation Department Board Report December 1, 2015 The annual Senior Citizen Banquet was held on November 20th. Shuttling the patrons from the parking lots at the High School seemed to go very smooth, we were able to have all of the shuttles completed by 11:30 with very little traffic flow issues. We definitely appreciated the help of Mr. Crawley and several of the teachers getting the patrons back to their locations after the banquet so as to allow the drivers to transport students home as normal. Winter sports are in full swing again keeping things very busy in the transportation department to cover all of the trips and routes. We currently have three people in varying stages of testing and training to obtain their CDL and look forward to the extra help. Once again Winter is upon us and even though we have had no actual winter weather, we are currently reviewing some of our routes that have issues each year making sure their winter snow routes are up to date and ready to send out to the parents in the next few days. We have been extremely fortunate so far this year with the downward spiral on fuel pricing so far. I purchased unleaded fuel on Nov. 2nd for $1.77 down from $2.98 last year close to this time. I purchased diesel fuel on Nov. 12th for $1.73 down from $1.89 in October. We in the Transportation Department would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
