VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Summary: Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is a non-governmental institute based in Tanzania with a mission of developing and sustaining health research capable of generating new knowledge and relevant information for public health policy and action. IHI is one of the leading research outfits in Africa maintaining collaboration with several other research institutes in the world. The IHI will be implementing the Safe Delivery App (SDA) project for skilled birth attendants at rural health facilities in Mpwapwa and Kongwa districts in Dodoma Region. SDA is an innovative mobile training tool that facilitates improved and more cost-effective training of skilled birth attendants aiming at improving the quality of care and safe delivery. The SDA is a job aid that supports skilled birth attendants’ capability and confidence as it provides the necessary competences for a respectful, evidence-based basic emergency obstetric and neonatal care (BEmONC) for women in labour that adheres to global and national guidelines. The IHI invites applications from interested, suitable and qualified Tanzanians to fill the position of Study Coordinator. The coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the overall field implementation activities. S/he will work closely with the Principal Investigator and Senior Technical Advisor in Dar es Salaam. Duties and Responsibilities: • •

Liaise with the PI to oversee the successful implementation of project activities that have been mutually agreed upon by the DANIDA and the IHI. Liaise with the PI to coordinate the scientific and logistical aspects of the research, overseeing all project activities, include recruiting, train, and monitoring health care providers using the Safe Delivery App, and organising site visits. Ensure that all project activities are adhering to national guidelines and ethics pertaining to research. Facilitate implementation of quantitative and qualitative research tools, analysis and report writing. Document necessary information of things happening in the study area as part of the contextual study. Liaise with the PI to organise project meetings and plan for venues, invitations and registering invitee confirmation and prepare meeting logistics.

Participate in national and regional stakeholders’ meetings organised by other partners and Ministry of Health and PO-RALG. To initiate writing and contribute to papers for publication in peer reviewed journals. Establish and maintain working relationship with regional and district level stakeholders in effective implementation of the project. Ensure that project information is accurately and promptly communicated to partners and other relevant parties.
Qualifications and Experience: • • • • •
Minimum requirement is a bachelor degree in medicine, public administration or social sciences. Knowledge and preferably experience in reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health. Desirable working experience of a minimum 3 years in implementation research with a research organisation, or in a related field. Demonstrated management experience of a minimum 3 years, with strong supervisory and management skills in leading teams in the field. Demonstrated work experience in working with Health Care providers in rural and urban health facilities.

Ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, including the use of analysis software i.e. STATA, NVIVO. Experience of working under time pressure and meeting strict deadlines, without close supervision. Ability to conduct meetings and liaise with community, government and other stakeholders. Ability to design and draft publications to communicate research content to different audiences, including non-technical audiences. Ability to work independently as well as in a team, strong problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels. Demonstrable ability to operate in a flexible working environment, and working across different cultures. Strong organisational skills. Computer skills (Ms Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Spoken and written English to business standards. Spoken and written Kiswahili to business standards.
