  WHAT​ ​TO​ ​DO​ ​IF​ ​YOU​ ​BELIEVE​ ​A​ ​DRONE​ ​IS  SPYING​ ​ON​ ​YOU:  1. Look​ ​for​ ​and​ ​talk​ ​to​ ​the operator​ ​–​ ​it​ ​could​ ​be​ ​the drone​ ​is​ ​simply​ ​taking​ ​footage for​ ​the​ ​sale​ ​of​ ​a​ ​nearby​ ​home. FAA​ ​rules​ ​require​ ​the operator​ ​to​ ​keep​ ​the​ ​drone​ ​in their​ ​line​ ​of​ ​site.​ ​ ​If​ ​you​ ​can’t find​ ​the​ ​operator​ ​and​ ​the drone​ ​is​ ​clearly​ ​hovering around​ ​windows​ ​and​ ​doors, you​ ​may​ ​have​ ​a​ ​legitimate complaint. 2. Check​ ​the​ ​laws​ ​in​ ​your​ ​area.​ ​It​ ​could​ ​be​ ​that​ ​there​ ​is​ ​no​ ​FAA​ ​rule​ ​broken,​ ​but​ ​there​ ​could be​ ​noise​ ​ordinances,​ ​harassment,​ ​or​ ​peeping​ ​tom​ ​laws​ ​that​ ​might​ ​apply.​ ​ ​If​ ​you​ ​are simply​ ​annoyed​ ​by​ ​the​ ​fact​ ​a​ ​drone​ ​is​ ​flying​ ​overhead​ ​there​ ​may​ ​be​ ​nothing​ ​you​ ​can​ ​do as​ ​the​ ​airspace​ ​is​ ​regulated​ ​by​ ​the​ ​FAA​ ​and​ ​the​ ​homeowner​ ​may​ ​not​ ​restrict​ ​aircraft. Under​ ​no​ ​circumstances​ ​should​ ​you​ ​take​ ​direct​ ​action​ ​and​ ​interfere​ ​with​ ​a​ ​drone​ ​flying overhead.​ ​ ​Not​ ​only​ ​is​ ​there​ ​a​ ​safety​ ​risk​ ​of​ ​the​ ​drone​ ​falling​ ​on​ ​someone,​ ​but​ ​you​ ​could find​ ​yourself​ ​on​ ​the​ ​wrong​ ​side​ ​of​ ​the​ ​law.

If​ ​you​ ​do​ ​believe​ ​you​ ​have​ ​a​ ​legitimate​ ​complaint,​ ​record​ ​the​ ​date​ ​and​ ​exact​ ​time.​ ​Get​ ​as much​ ​information​ ​as​ ​possible​ ​such​ ​as​ ​the​ ​size,​ ​color​ ​of​ ​the​ ​drone​ ​and​ ​the​ ​number​ ​of propellers.​ ​ ​All​ ​drones​ ​over​ ​.55​ ​pounds​ ​are​ ​required​ ​to​ ​be​ ​registered​ ​with​ ​the​ ​FAA​ ​and​ ​all registered​ ​drones​ ​are​ ​required​ ​to​ ​have​ ​the​ ​registration​ ​number​ ​affixed​ ​to​ ​it.​ ​ ​Call​ ​the authorities​ ​however,​ ​drones​ ​have​ ​a​ ​short​ ​battery​ ​life​ ​(30​ ​min​ ​avg.)​ ​and​ ​by​ ​the​ ​time​ ​the authorities​ ​arrive,​ ​the​ ​drone​ ​could​ ​be​ ​long​ ​gone.​ ​ ​The​ ​authorities​ ​may​ ​work​ ​directly​ ​with the​ ​FAA​ ​to​ ​determine​ ​if​ ​a​ ​drone​ ​was​ ​being​ ​operated​ ​illegally​ ​or​ ​in​ ​an​ ​unsafe​ ​manner. Luckily,​ ​the​ ​vast​ ​majority​ ​of​ ​drone​ ​operators​ ​are​ ​performing​ ​their​ ​activities​ ​within​ ​the​ ​rules​ ​of​ ​the FAA.
