Agami held its 2014 Annual General Meeting On June 15, 2014, Agami held its 2014 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the public library auditorium in San Jose, California. Agami is a US-registered non-profit IRS 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promote basic education to the under-privileged children in Bangladesh and USA. The annual general meeting was an opportunity to reflect on the past year, look to the future, and celebrate the dedication of all Agami volunteers who are making a difference in various communities across the countries. The AGM approved the annual report of 2013 and the proposed changes in the by-laws. The meeting elected a new 19-member Executive Committee of Agami Central for the year 2014-15. Dr. Sabir Majumder, one of the three co-founders of the organization, was elected as the new President. The committee consisted of 8 different teams focused on various functional areas such as: Operations (North America), Operations (Bangladesh), Programs, Finance, Chapter & Membership, Fundraising, Grant Writing, and Marketing. The newly formed committee reflects a broadened scope of Agami and its aspirations as its members now included men and women from multiple ethnic communities geographically distributed across many states (California, New York, Florida, North Carolina) and countries (USA, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh). The meeting highlighted several important aspects of Agami activities and accomplishments including: 1. Agami started modestly with a small fund of $1,500 in 2003 supporting just one primary school in Bangladesh. 2. In 2004, it received the non-profit 501(c)(3) registration from IRS. 3. Last year its operations helped 4,077 kids in13 schools of Bangladesh and 5 students in USA at a total cost of about $100,000. 4. Agami operations in Bangladesh were divided into 4 major programs – a. School program (supporting elementary schools in Bangladesh), b. Khan Academy Initiatives (translation of video tutorials in Bangla), c. Continuing Education Program (providing ex-Agami students with financial, academic and mentoring support),

d. Science Initiative (increasing knowledge and interest in science among students of the elementary schools). 5. Last year Agami signed a contract with Asian Development Bank to translate and map Khan Academy Math videos with Class 3 to 10 curriculums of National Curriculum and Textbook Board of Bangladesh and to implement the videos as e-learning resource at selected high schools. The project is expected to be completed in 2015 with projected ADB funding of over US$97k. 6. Most of Agami funds came from individual donations of people across USA. In addition, foundation contribution and corporate matching grants from companies like Mentor Graphics, eBay, Microsoft, Apple, Google etc. also played an important role. At the end, the outgoing president Dr. Abu Hassan thanked all for their support and handed over the leadership of Agami Executive Committee to the incoming President Dr. Sabir Majumder. In his acceptance speech, Dr. Majumder underlined the 13,000% growth the organization achieved in last 11 years and set a target of 500% growth for next 6 years. It would elevate the financial strength of the organization to million dollar range by 2020 and enable Agami to overcome the next set of challenges in fulfilling its core objective - education for under-privileged children.
