Question 1 In designing its compensation strategy, organizations must pay special attention to: ƒ the players involved in compensation ƒ the different components of the pay system ƒ the pay models in formulating policies that will contribute towards designing a compensation strategy ƒ an understanding of the techniques used to achieve these policy objectives and the organization’s overall compensation objectives

Discuss each of these within the context of compensation theory and practice. (20 Marks)

Question 2 Discuss which of these factors is the more important in formulating a compensation package-internal alignment or external competition. (20 marks)

Question 3 Identify and discuss some of the methods used to establish internal equity of pay structures and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each method. (20 marks)

Question 4 Incentives and benefits are all elements of a good compensation package. With appropriate examples, identify and discuss the factors that influence organizations to include these in formulating a compensation package. (20 marks)

Question 5 The Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers’ Association (TTUTA) is currently demanding a salary increase for teachers based on market rates. From all indications the issue may be heading for the Industrial Court of Trinidad and Tobago. Discuss the impact (pros and cons) of union recognition on the Ministry of Education’s ability to develop a compensation package that is advantageous to the organization. (20 marks)
