American Literature ePortfolios A. Setting up the Site 1. Login to sites.google.com 2. Paste the following URL in the address bar (or hold Ctrl & click the link) a. https://sites.google.com/site/amlitportfolio 3. Select Use Template (appears in the upper right or center, depending on browser) 4. Name your site like this: AWilliamsAmLitPortfolio (start with your first initial followed by last name) - Site name becomes part of the site location URL: https://sites.google.com/site/awilliamsamlitportfolio 5. Type the code shown, then click Create 6. Complete the following form to receive credit for your assignment o https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dF9qUFl4Y3dwbjJvSzZCbVVVVmMt M0E6MA#gid=0 B. Editing Web Pages 1. Select the Edit page button: - Replace Amy’s name on the home page with Your Name - Click the Save button 2. Edit the Professional Bio page to remove Amy’s photo and insert your own 3. Explore other editing options on the menu, toolbar and under More / Manage Site (Save to find this) C. Creating PDFs 1. Open a document in Microsoft Office 2007 or above 2. Select File / Save as 3. In the Dialog box use the drop down menu for Save as type and scroll down to find PDF 4. The file saves to the folder with the original using the same name followed by the .pdf extension D. Uploading to Google Docs & Linking 1. Click on the Documents link at the top left of Google Sites, or go to docs.google.com and sign in 2. Click the Upload button near the upper left, then select Files… 3. Locate and Open your PDF document 4. Remove any s so document formats will not be converted! 5. Click the Start upload button 6. Once the document is uploaded select Share (look to the right), then click Change… 7. Select Anyone with the link 8. Leave the box for Allow anyone to edit unchecked 9. Click the Save button 10. Copy the highlighted link by pressing Ctrl-C 11. Click the Done button 12. Return to your Google Sites Web page 13. Select the Edit page button: 14. Type a name for your document in the main box 15. Highlight the document name & click Link on the toolbar 16. Click on Web address in the Create Link box 17. Paste (Ctrl-V) the link to your document in the Link to this URL: box 18. Click to place a  in the Open this link in a new window box 19. Click OK 20. Click the Save button for your Web page, then Test your link! © V. Bryan 2010-2012
