LUKE 24:35-48

JESUS APPEARS TO HIS DISCIPLES IN JERUSALEM The two disciples recounted what had taken place on the way, and how Jesus was made known to them in the breaking of bread. While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be with you." But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. Then he said to them, "Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have." And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed, he asked them, "Have you anything here to eat?" They gave him a piece of baked fish; he took it and ate it in front of them. He said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled." Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. And he said to them, "Thus it is written that the Christ would suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance, for the forgiveness of sins, would be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things."

The Gospel reading for this week talked about the time when Jesus appeared before His disciples after His death and then resurrection. The disciples could not believe their eyes that Jesus was there before them because deep down in their hearts, some of them had doubts about Jesus’ words that He would rise from the dead. Jesus comforts them, asks for something to eat, and then tells them to remember that it was written in the Laws of Moses, in the prophets, and in the Psalms, that Christ had to suffer and rise on the third day, and that sins will be forgiven in His name. He also named them witnesses of His resurrection so they can teach it to others.

5. Live It! [ COURAGE ] Courage means to do something that you are afraid of and is hard to do. At first, the disciples were afraid to believe that Jesus had come back to life, but they believed it after Jesus showed them proof. You will meet others in life who will challenge your faith or you will have doubts of your own because sometimes it is hard to believe in God when there are bad things happening to you or those you care about. This is a good time to show courage by practicing your faith. Pray openly this week during your free time at school. Be kind to others, even to those you do not like, because you are following the teachings of Jesus. Show them that you are proud to be a Catholic.

The Gospel reading this week focused on doubt. Although some of the disciples had met Jesus in person after His resurrection, they did not truly believe that Jesus had come back to life. Jesus understands that people would not believe without proof, therefore, He appeared before the disciples to ensure that His disciples would believe and spread His teaching knowing that it is true. Jesus also reminded them that it was written before Jesus came to this world in the Laws of Moses that this would happen. You may face a lot of doubt in your life about your faith, and there will be others, either at school or those you meet, who will challenge your faith by telling you that God does not exist. Jesus has already shown us that God does exist, and that all His teachings are true. It is up to you to keep on believing His words, and spread them to others.

4. Remember It! ”These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written abut me in the law of Moses and in the prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.” (Luke 24:44)

Dear Jesus, thank you for saving us from our sins and showing us that we are loved. Please give us the courage to live our faith in according to Your teachings, and please continue to watch over us all. Amen.
