WEEK B-L1 MARK 1:12-15

JESUS IS TEMPTED At once the spirit drove him out into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan. He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to him. After John had been arrested, Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God: “This is the time of fulfilment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Tempted

To encourage someone to want to have or do something, especially something wrong.

Ministered

To attend to the needs of someone.

Arrested

Act of catching a person.

Proclaiming

To announce or say out loud.

Fulfilment

To bring happiness or satisfaction to something or someone.

Today’s gospel reading reminds all of us to believe in the Gospel, especially the teachings of Jesus told by His disciples. Through believing the Gospel, we are proclaiming the Gospel of God just like Jesus did in Galilee. He wants everyone to know that we too can enter the kingdom of God. In order to do so, we must repent and believe in His words and the written truth in the gospel. Even if there are things around us that try to stop us from believing, with Jesus and the Gospel by our side, we can overcome anything.

3. Connect It! There is a cool toy you want but the only way to get it is to buy it. You don’t have enough money so you tried to find ways to buy it. Someone tells you to steal the toy instead. You think about what that person said and wonder if it is the right thing to do. Before we make a decision, let’s think of what would Jesus do. Jesus had to travel through a desert for forty days. On His journey, the devil tempted Jesus. Luckily, Jesus knew the right thing to do. He ignored the devil and continued His travel. When He came to Galilee, He knew that He wanted to remind people to stay strong and truthful towards the Gospel. If we do the right things and believe in them, we can overcome anything just like Jesus did. When you have to make a big decision in the future, think about what Jesus would do before you make the decision.

4. Live It! [ TRUTHFULNESS ] Truthfulness means to be honest and truthful. It is important to always tell the truth and to believe in it with all your heart and soul. Sometimes, we will be asked if something is right or wrong. Make sure to use good conscience to see what is the right or the truthful thing to do. Write how the little boy below is being truthful.

5. Remember It! “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

6. Pray It! Dear Jesus, You had to travel a desert for forty days. On Your journey, You had to stay strong and truthful. Please help us to also stay strong and truthful. Help us to believe in the Gospel and stay truthful to it. Amen.
