JOHN 3:14-21 Jesus said to Nicodemus: “Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.

1. Understand It!

Nicodemus

Was a Pharisee and helped to take down Jesus’ body from the cross.

Perish

To suffer death.

Eternal Life

The life in heaven after death.

Condemn

Sentence (someone) to a particular punishment.

Exposed

Make (something) visible.

2. Explore It! Jesus used the picture of Moses lifting up the serpent in the desert to talk with Nicodemus to show how the Son of Man has sacrificed and how people may have eternal life if they believe in the Son of Man. He also used the picture of the light to describe how the power of God can destroy the darkness. God knows everything and He loves the world so much. Therefore, He sent His only Son into the World for whoever listens and believes in Him may receive salvation.

3. Connect It! Jesus is the true light for us to follow and to become closer to God. Through the passion of Christ, we receive the salvation when we believe in Him. In our daily lives, we sometimes bump into situations which made us sad or unhappy. When we are sad, we can’t see God’s true light anymore, we blame God because He doesn’t give us what we want. We need to remember that God loves us very much and He is always walking with us through our unhappy times.

4. Live It! [ WISDOM ] Wisdom means to be wise and have good judgment.

5. Remember It!

Each day, we can bring Jesus’ light to light other people’s lives through how we treat them. How can we bring Jesus to others? Here are ways you can bring the light of Jesus to others. When you do them, you show that you love God and you want to share and bring others closer to God.

“And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil.” (John 3:19)

1. Always tell the truth. 2. Help someone. 3. Pray with God everyday and ask Him to be your light.

6. Pray It! For God so loved the world That He gave His only Son So that everyone who believes in Him May not perish, but have eternal life. Dear God, thank you for the love You show us each day. Amen.
