Andrew Zhang is running for the Montgomery County 36th Student Member of the Board of Education (SMOB). The Board of Education provides leadership and oversight for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) by setting goals, establishing policies, and committing resources to benefit our diverse student population. This board is comprised of eight members, seven adults and one student (SMOB). The SMOB is elected by ~ 76,000 Montgomery County middle school and high school students. Andrew has already won the preliminary election at the nominating convention on March 7 and is moving on to the final election as one of the two remaining candidates. The final election will be conducted on April 24 at all Montgomery County public middle schools and high schools. Andrew is a junior at the International Baccalaureate (IM) Program of Richard Montgomery High School. Currently, he is the vice president of school wide Student Government Association (SGA). In Roberto Clemente Middle School, he had served as vice president and president of SGA. As a Chinese American youth, Andrew understands the needs of Asian American students. He also loves Chinese culture. Currently, he is teaching adult English class at Hope Chinese School at Gaithersburg campus. If Andrew wins, it will be a great victory for our Chinese community in Montgomery county. Let’s all go vote for Andrew on April 24, 2013, Wednesday!
