“The Parabolic Edition”  

 

1stEdition   Red Bird, Yellow Bird, Blue Bird and Black Bird are angry with the pigs. The pigs stole the birds’ eggs. The birds want their eggs back and will stop at nothing to get them back. The flight path of the birds can be modeled with a parabola. Use “x” as the distance and “y” as the height. You will be assigned 4 birds. You will show a graph for each bird. Be sure to label each axis and do all work neatly. The distance and height are measured in yards. Identify the vertex and axis of symmetry. Once you graph, you will answer the following questions for each bird. Write your answers using complete sentences.

QUESTIONS: 1. What is the maximum height the bird flew? 2. What was the total distance the bird flew? 3. Determine if the bird will hit the pigs with the following locations and explain how you arrived at your answer.
