दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी (वार्षिक ररपोर्ि 2014-15) दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी की स्थापना 1951 में यूनेस्को के वित्तीय और तकनीकी सहयोग से तत्कालीन
शिक्षा मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार द्िारा सािवजननक पस् ु तकालय पररयोजना के रूप में की गई। ितवमान में दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी संस्कृनत मंत्रालय, भारत सरकार के प्रिासननक ननयंत्रण में कायव कर रही है ।
पुरानी दिल्ली में छोटे से पस् ु तकालय के रूप में स्थावपत इस लाइब्रेरी के अंतगवत राजधानी दिल्ली में
एक केंद्रीय पुस्तकालय, एक क्षेत्रीय पस् ु तकालय, 3 िाखाएं, 24 उपिाखाएं, 01 समुिाय पुस्तकालय, 09 पुनिावस कालोनी पुस्तकालय, एक ब्रेल पस् ु तकालय, 62 चल पस् ु तकालय सेिा केंद्र तथा 25 ननक्षेप केंद्र हैं ब्जसके
कारण दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी िे ि में एक प्रमख ु पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी शसस्टम के रूप में विकशसत हो गई है तथा संपूणव महानगर को सेिा प्रिान कर रही है। दि.प.ला. बिना ककसी शलंग, धमव, जानत ि िगव भेिभाि के ियस्क एिं िाल पाठकों को समान रूप से नन:िुल्क सेिा प्रिान करने के अनतररक्त पाठकों की मनोरं जनात्मक
आिश्यकताओं को पूरा करने तथा उनकी छुपी हुई प्रनतभा को उभारने के शलए समाज शिक्षा के रूप में एक मंच प्रिान करती है ।
दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी ज्ञान - प्रसार तथा सांस्कृनतक केंद्र के रूप में अपनी सेिाओं का विस्तार कर
रही है । यह अनुभि ककया जा रहा है कक पस् ु तकालय केिल पस् ु तक पररचालन केंद्र के रूप में ही स्थावपत न होकर िब्ल्क जीिंत संस्था के रूप में विकशसत हो जो पाठकों में िौद्धधक चेष्टा एिं सामाब्जक सौहािव उत्पन्न करें ।
िर्व 2014-15 के िौरान दि.प.ला. के कायव- कलापों का संक्षक्षप्त सार ननम्न अनुच्छे िों में दिया गया है-
1. शासी निकाय
दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी, दिल्ली लाइब्रेरी िोर्व, द्िारा िाशसत है । िोर्व में 16 सिस्य हैं
ब्जसका अध्यक्ष संस्कृनत मंत्री, भारत सरकार द्िारा मनोनीत ककया जाता है। महाननिे िक, दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी, िोर्व का पिे न सिस्य - सधचि है।
इसके अलािा दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी के विशभन्न कायवकलापों के संचालन के शलए िोर्व द्िारा

3. तकिीकी सेवाएँ – 3.1 पस् ु तकें – पुस्तक सलाहकार सशमनत के चयन के आधार पर पुस्तक क्रय प्रकक्रया विभाग द्िारा संपूणव

3.3 ब्जल्िबंिी- प्रत्येक िर्व ब्जल्िसाजों से ननवििा प्राप्त कर पस् ु तकों की व्यािहाररक रूप से ब्जल्ििंिी कराई
जाती है । पस् ु तकालय द्िारा ररपोटव िर्व के िौरान 3,402 पस् ु तकें, 212 गज़ट, 24 समाचार-पत्र एिं 12 पबत्रकाओं की ब्जल्ििंिी कराई गई।
3.4.धगफ्र् एंड एक्सचेंज डडवीजि – धगफ्ट एंर् एक्सचेंज डर्विजन विशभन्न स्त्रोतों से प्राप्त पस् ु तकों को

4. पाठक सेवाएं- पस् व या ननैःिल् ु तकालय की संकल्पना का एक मात्र आधार था- पस् ु तकालय की पूणत ु क सिस्यता । (सिस्यता के शलए िापसी योग्य िल् ु क केिल उसी ब्स्थनत में िसल ू ककया जाना चादहए जि कोई उपयुक्त गारं टी न शमल सके।) उक्त ितव को पूरा करने िाला कोई भी व्यब्क्त केिल 2/- रूपए मूल्य का
ननधावररत सिस्यता प्रपत्र भरकर पस् ु तकालय की सिस्यता प्राप्त कर सकता है। पस् ु तकालय की सिस्यता, जो िो िर्व की अिधध तक मान्य रहती है , का आगे पन ु ैः निीनीकरण करिाया जा सकता है । सिस्यता प्रपत्र

5. केंद्रीय पस् ु तकालय
पुस्तकालय सेवाओं के र्वषय में लयौरे वार ररपोर्ि
5.1 वयस्क पररचालि र्वभाग- िर्व 1951 में एस.पी.मख ु जी मागव पर ब्स्थत केंद्रीय पुस्तकालय में पाठकों के
शलए पहला पस् ु तकालय आरं भ ककया गया। यह पुस्तकालय वपछले 64 िर्ों से पाठकों को (सुिह से िाम तक) उत्कृष्ट सेिा प्रिान कर रहा है । ररपोटव िर्व के िौरान इस पस् ु तकालय ने अपने 27,667 पंजीकृत पाठकों को 89,048 पस् ु तकें पररचाशलत की।
5.2 संिभि अिभ ु ाग – केंद्रीय पस् ु तकालय के संिभव अनुभाग का प्रयोग सिस्यों तथा गैर सिस्यों द्िारा ककया
जाता है। संिभव अनुभाग में िोधकतावओं, लेखकों, विद्याधथवयों, और सामान्य पाठकों द्िारा संिभव ग्रंथों, विश्िकोिों, िलिकोिों, तथा राजपत्रों आदि का अध्ययन ककया जाता है। इस अनुभाग में पाठकों के प्रश्नों के उत्तर िरू भार् पर, व्यब्क्तगत रूप से, तथा पत्र द्िारा दिए जाते हैं।यह अनुभाग पाठकों को फोटो प्रनत सेिा भी उपललध कराता है। िर्व के िौरान संिभव अनभ ु ाग में 12,864 पस् ु तकें पढी गई।
5.3 बाल अिुभाग - यह विभाग केिल 15 िर्व से कम आयु के पाठकों के शलए ही खोला गया है । ररपोटव िर्व में
िाल विभाग की सिस्य संख्या 4,263 हो गई। इस विभाग द्िारा पंजीकृत सिस्यों को 14,484 पस् ु तकें पररचाशलत की गई।
6. क्षेत्रीय/शाखा पस् ु तकालय
6.1 क्षेत्रीय पस् ु तकालय – 1985 में सरोजनी नगर में प्रारं भ ककया गया पहला क्षेत्रीय पुस्तकालय िक्षक्षणी दिल्ली
के पाठकों में काफी लोकवप्रय है । ररपोटव िर्व में इस पस् ु तकालय के 16,228 पंजीकृत सिस्यों को 70,568 पुस्तकें पररचाशलत की गईं।
6.2 शाखाएं – पस् ु तकालय की तीनों िाखाओं - पटे ल नगर, करोल िाग़ तथा िाहिरा की कुल सिस्य संख्या 23,575 है । िर्व के िौरान इन िाखाओं ने अपने पंजीकृत सिस्यों को 1,78,889 पुस्तकें पररचाशलत की।
संिभि अिभ ु ाग- क्षेत्रीय पस् ु तकालय िक्षक्षण एिं तीनों िाखाओं का संिभव अनभ ु ाग दिन - प्रनतदिन लोकवप्रय हो रहा है । पस् ु तक एिं समाचार पत्र सामग्री िोधकतावओं, विद्याधथवयों और सामान्य पाठकों के शलए उपललध है ।
6.3 उपशाखाएं - ररपोटव िर्व के िौरान पस् ु तकालय की 24 उपिाखाओं की कुल सिस्यता 42,023 थी। इन उपिाखाओं द्िारा अपने पंजीकृत सिस्यों को 3,54,285 पुस्तकें पररचाशलत की गईं।
6.4 समुिाय पस् ु तकालय - पुस्तकालय द्िारा राष्रीय राजधानी क्षेत्र दिल्ली के लोधी रोड में एक समुिाय पुस्तकालय संचाशलत हैं। ररपोटव िर्व के िौरान इस समि ु ाय पस् ु तकालय ने अपने 478 पंजीकृत सिस्यों को दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी (वार्षिक ररपोर्ि 2013-14)
(5) 7,411 पुस्तकें पररचाशलत की। 6.5 पि ु वािस कालोिी पस् ु तकालय – ितवमान में समाज के कमजोर िगों के शलए ननशमवत विशभन्न पन ु िावस कालोननयों में 09 पस् ु तकालय संचाशलत हैं। इन 09 पस् ु तकालयों की कुल सिस्यता 10,454 हैं ब्जन्हें गह ृ पठन हे तु 1,06,454 पस् ु तकें पररचाशलत की गई।

7. र्वस्तार सेवाएं 7.1 निक्षेप केंद्रः विस्तार सेिा विभाग के पास विशभन्न सशमनतयों द्िारा उनकी अपनी- अपनी कालोननयों में
पुस्तकालय संचाशलत करने की नई योजना है । दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी की िे खरे ख में यह विभाग ननक्षेप केंद्र
चलाने के इच्छुक व्यब्क्तयों को पस् ु तकें प्रिान करता है तथा उन्हें प्रारं शभक प्रशिक्षण भी िे ता है। इस योजना को निक्षेप केंद्र के रूप में जाना जाता है। इस समय दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी राष्रीय राजधानी क्षेत्र दिल्ली के विविध
क्षेत्रों में 25 ननक्षेप केंद्रों का संचालन कर रही है । िर्व 2014-15 में इन ननक्षेप केंद्रों ने अपने 2,016 पंजीकृत सिस्यों को 11,181 पुस्तकें पररचाशलत की ।
7.2 चल पस् ु तकालय – दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी ने पााँच नए सी.एन.जी. चेशसस क्रय कर तथा उस पर पस् ु तकालय
िाहन ननमावण कराने के पश्चात फरिरी, 2005 से चल पुस्तकालय सेिा पन ु : आरं भ की । दिनांक 31.03.2015
तक दि.प.ला. द्िारा राष्रीय राजधानी क्षेत्र दिल्ली के 62 क्षेत्रों में चल पस् ु तकालय सेिा प्रिान की जा रही है। इस अिधध में 2,664 पंजीकृत सिस्यों को
15,056 पस् ु तकें पररचाशलत की गई । इसके अनतररक्त दिल्ली पब्ललक
लाइब्रेरी दृब्ष्टहीन पाठकों के शलए चल पस् ु तकालय सेिा भी प्रिान कर रही है । ितवमान में ब्रेल विभाग द्िारा पाठकों को 20 ब्रेल चल पस् ु तकालय सेिा केंद्रों पर पुस्तकालय सेिा प्रिान की जा रही है । 8. र्वशेष सेवाएं –
8.1 समाज शशक्षा सेवाएं – यह विभाग व्यब्क्त की आंतररक प्रनतभा / अशभरूधच के विकास के शलए केंद्रीय
पुस्तकालय के ियस्क सिस्यों के शलए सामदू हक कक्रया कलापों का आयोजन करता है । इस समय विभाग द्िारा
विशभन्न समह ू ों जैस-े नाटक, संगीत, सादहब्त्यक अध्ययन, प्राकृनतक धचककत्सा और होशमयोपैथी अध्ययन आदि का दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी (वार्षिक ररपोर्ि 2013-14)
(6) आयोजन ककया जा रहा है । यह विभाग पाठकों के लाभ के शलए पस् ु तक प्रििवनी, कफल्म प्रििवन, िरू ििवन कायवक्रम, भार्ण आदि का भी आयोजन करता है । इन कायवकलापों में भाग लेने के शलए प्रथम ितव यह है कक प्रनतभागी दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी का पंजीकृत सिस्य हो।
दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी सामूदहक कक्रया कलापों और दृश्य श्रव्य कायवक्रमों के माध्यम से अपने सिस्यों
और सामान्य जनता की सांस्कृनतक अशभरूधचयों के विकास की व्यिस्था करती है। ररपोटव िर्व के िौरान नाटक, सामूदहक िैठकें, भार्ण, प्रििवनी आदि 115 कायवक्रम पस् ु तकालय में आयोब्जत ककए गए। इन कायवक्रमों में 6,875 व्यब्क्तयों की उपब्स्थनत रही।
8.2 प्रनतयोधगताएं एवं पुरस्कार- इस िर्व दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी में िाल, ियस्क एिं दृब्ष्टहीन सिस्यों की सांस्कृनतक अशभरूधच को प्रोत्सादहत करने हे तु िावर्वक प्रनतयोधगताएं आयोब्जत की गई ब्जनमें विजेता प्रनतभाधगयों को पुरस्कार ि प्रमाण पत्र प्रिान ककए गए।
8.3 ग्रामोफोि एवं संगीत कैसेर् पस् ु तकालय- दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी अपने पंजीकृत सिस्यों को ग्रामोफोन ररकार्व / दृश्य- श्रव्य कैसेट ननैःिुल्क पररचाशलत करती है । इन ररकार्व / कैसेटों में संगीत के सभी प्रकार यथा- िास्त्रीय, िाद्य तथा सग ु म संगीत, भजन, गजल, कफल्मी गीत आदि िाशमल हैं। लाइब्रेरी के पाठक है र्फोन/कंप्यट ू र साधनों
के माध्यम से संगीत का आनंि लेते हैं। पस् ु तकालय ने अपने 362 पंजीकृत सिस्यों को 392 ररकार्व/र्ीिीर्ी पररचाशलत ककए । कुल संग्रह ग्रामोफोन ररकार्व/कैसेट 9,431 र्ीिीर्ी 1,322 है । (वषि 2014-15)

8.4 ब्रेल र्वभाग- ब्रेल विभाग दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी की विशिष्ट सेिाओं में से है– जो दृब्ष्टहीन पाठकों की पठन
आिश्यकताओं को पूरा करती है तथा उनमें पठन अशभरूधचयों को जागत ु तकें ृ करती है । ब्रेल विभाग न केिल पस्
पररचाशलत करता है अवपतु पुस्तकों को ब्रेल शलवप में शलप्यंतररत भी करता है। िर्व के अंत में ब्रेल विभाग में दहंिी ि
अंग्रेजी पस् ु तकों की संख्या 11,710 थीं । ब्रेल विभाग द्िारा 830 दृब्ष्टहीन पाठकों को 11,710 पस् ु तकें पररचाशलत की गई ।
8.5 बंदियों को पस् ु तकालय सेवा- लाइब्रेरी द्िारा राष्रीय राजधानी दिल्ली के केंद्रीय कारागार, नतहाड के िंदियों को भी
पुस्तकालय सेिा प्रिान की जाती है । ररपोटव िर्व के िौरान केन्द्रीय कारागार और इसके पांच ननक्षेप केन्द्रों के 1,386 पंजीकृत सिस्यों को 18,728 पुस्तकें पररचाशलत की गई । िंदियों को चार ननक्षेप केंद्रों द्िारा भी पस् ु तकें पररचाशलत की जाती हैं।
8.6 वाचिालय (पत्रत्रकाओं एवं समाचार पत्रों के उपयोग हे तु) - पुस्तकालय, राष्रीय राजधानी क्षेत्र, दिल्ली की जनता
की अशभरूधचयों को विकशसत करने के शलए ननरं तर प्रयासरत है। पस् ु तकालय के विशभन्न सेिा केंद्रों में िाचनालयों की

डडपॉब्जर्री लाइब्रेरीः 9.1 पुस्तक प्रिाि अधिनियम प्रभागः
दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी को भारत सरकार ने पुस्तक वितरण अधधननयम,
1954 (1956 में संिोधधत) के अधीन 16 निंिर, 1981 को चतुथव प्रापी पस् ु तकालय के रूप में घोवर्त ककया। इस
अधधननयम के प्रािधानों के अनस ु ार दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी को सभी भार्ाओं के प्रकािकों से उनके प्रत्येक प्रकािन
की एक प्रनत ननैःिल् ु क प्राप्त होती है । पस् ु तक विरतण अधधननयम प्रभाग इस अधधननयम के अंतगवत प्राप्त सभी प्रकािनों / पस् ु तकों की माननटररंग करता है । ररपोटव िर्व के िौरान दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी ने सभी भारतीय भार्ाओं
की 7,073 पुस्तकें प्राप्त की। दिनांक 31.03.2015 तक इस प्रभाग का कुल पस् ु तक संग्रह 3,26,694 था। पस् ु तकों के
अनतररक्त इस अधधननयम के अंतगवत सभी भार्ाओं की लगभग 1,000 लोकवप्रय पबत्रकाएं एिं समाचार पत्र ननयशमत रूप से प्राप्त
होते हैं।

एशशयि डडवेलपमेंर् बैंक पब्ललकेशिः दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी को िर्व 1994 में एशियन डर्िेलपमेंट िैंक
(ए.र्ी.िी.) के प्रकािनों के शलए डर्पॉब्जटरी लाइब्रेरी के रूप में मनोनीत ककया गया । यह सामग्री पाठकों के उपयोग के शलए केंद्रीय पस् ु तकालय में रखी गई है।

10.1 कंप्यर् ू रीकरणः दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी में िर्व 1995 से कंप्यट ू र लगने तथा पाठ्य र्ाटा शलखने में सक्षम
यूनेस्को के सी.र्ी.एस./ आई.एस.आई.एस. साफ्टिेयर पैकेज प्रयोग करने के साथ ही पुस्तकालय के कंप्यूटरीकरण का कायव प्रारं भ हो गया है। पस् ु तकालय के कायवकलाप के तीव्र आटोमेिन हे तु दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी ने कोहा ओपन सोसव इंटीग्रेदटट लाइब्रेरी मैनेजमेंट साफ्टिेयर (आई.एल.एम.एस.) को अपनाने का ननणवय शलया। इस पर पस् ु तकालय
एिं सूचना वििेर्ज्ञों के मागवििवन से दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी के अपने कमवचाररयों द्िारा ही काम ककया गया। अप्रैल, 2007 में कोहा पर काम करना िुरू ककया गया।
कक्रयान्ियन के प्रथम चरण में केंद्रीय पस् ु तकालय में एक सिवर तथा िैक अप सिवर लगाया गया।
कोहा ओपन सोसव साफ्टिेयर द्िारा पस् ु तक प्रिान अधधननयम के अंतगवत प्राप्त पस् ु तकों का र्ाटा फीर् ककया जा रहा है । 31 माचव, 2015 तक लगभग ---------------- पुस्तकों का र्ाटा इंटरनेट पर उपललध है । दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी की
िेिसाइट http://www.dpl.gov.in या www.delhipubliclibrary.in से ग्रंथसूची संिध ं ी र्ाटा ननैःिल् ु क र्ाउनलोर् भी ककया जा सकता है ।
10.2 लाइब्रेरी वेबसाइर् दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी की अपनी िेिसाइट http://www.dpl.gov.in पर पस् ु तकालय की िाखाओं, उनके खल ु ने का समय, सेिाएं, वििेर् कक्रया कलाप एिं कायवक्रम आदि का वििरण उपललध है । दिनांक 31.03.2015 तक 30,662 प्रयोक्ताओं ने लाइब्रेरी की िेिसाइट पर विब्जट ककया। दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी की पुस्तकों की सांप्रनतक सच ू ी लाइब्रेरी की िेिसाइट www.delhipubliclibrary.in पर भी उपललध है।
11. तकिीकी परामशि एवं पस् ु तकालय र्वज्ञाि में व्यावहाररक प्रशशक्षणः पस् ु तकालय विज्ञान के छात्रों / संस्थानों को
तकनीकी परामिव एिं व्यािहाररक प्रशिक्षण प्रिान करना पस् ु तकालय का एक महत्िपूणव कायव है । दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी द्िारा पस् ु तकालय विज्ञान के 33 छात्र / छात्राओं को पुस्तकालय संचालन की विविध कायव प्रणाशलयों का
गहन प्रशिक्षण प्रिान ककया गया। इसके अनतररक्त िे ि के विशभन्न भागों / प्रांतों से पस् ु तकालय विज्ञान के विद्याधथवयों तथा अन्य गणमान्य पस् ु तकालयाध्यक्षों ने इस पस् ु तकालय का अिलोकन ककया। 12. लाइब्रेरी के स्र्ाफ की सेशमिार व संगोष्ठी में प्रनतभाधगता व प्रशशक्षण

दिल्ली में आयोब्जत एक दििसीय कायविाला में नाशमत ककया गया। 13. पस् ु तकालय में राजभाषा दहंिी का प्रयोगः
दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी की राजभाषा कायािन्वयि सशमनत की 4 िैठकें हुईं ब्जसमें राजभार्ा दहंिी के प्रयोग में हुई प्रगनत की समीक्षा की गई। दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी के केंद्रीय पुस्तकालय में दिनांक 15-9-2014 से 22-9-2014 तक दहंिी सप्ताह
मनाया गया। दहंिी सप्ताह के िौरान कायावलय के दहंिी/ अन्य भार्ाभार्ी कमवचाररयों के शलए ननिंध, दटप्पणप्रारूपण, प्रश्नमंच, सामान्य दहंिी ज्ञान तथा भार्ण प्रनतयोधगताएं आयोब्जत की गईं। दहंिी सप्ताह के समापन
समारोह (22.9.2014) में 23 विजेता प्रनतभाधगयों को नकि पुरस्कार ि प्रमाण पत्र प्रिान ककए गए। इस अिसर पर
प्रोत्साहन योजना के अंतगवत सरकारी कायव दहंिी में करने पर पुरस्कार पाने िाले 2 कमवचाररयों को भी नकि पुरस्कार
एिं प्रमाण पत्र प्रिान ककए गए। िै ननक सरकारी कायव में दहंिी को िढािा िे ने के शलए दहंिी कक्ष द्िारा चार कायविालाओं का आयोजन ककया गया।
दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी का दहंिी कक्ष राजभार्ा अधधननयमों ननयमों के अंतगवत विविध िस्तािेजों/ कागजातों
आदि के अनि ु ाि के शलए प्रनतिद्ध है। दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी की अद्वधिावर्वक पबत्रका “पस् ु तकालय प्रगनत” का संयुक्तांक (8-9) अंक प्रकाशित ककया गया । पस् ु तकालय सरकारी कामकाज में राजभार्ा दहंिी के प्रयोग को िढािा िे ने के शलेए ननरं तर प्रयासरत है । 14. िई सेवाएं14.1 पाठकों के शलए इंर्रिेर् सेवा
: दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी ने नन:िल्ु क इंटरनेट सेिा प्रिान करने के शलए अपने
तीनों पुस्तकालयों- केंद्रीय पस् ु तकालय में 20, सरोजनी नगर पस् ु तकालय में 20 तथा पटे ल नगर पस् ु तकालय में 15 कंप्यट ू र लगाए । छ: अन्य स्थानों विनोिा पुरी, जनक परु ी, करोल िाग, िाहिरा, नरे ला, आर.के. पुरम सैक्टर-8, ब्स्थत पस् ु तकालयों में भी नन:िल् ु क इंटरनेट सेिा का विस्तार ककया गया। दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी अपने 11 पस् ु तकालयों में

(10) ननैःिल् ु क इंटरनेट सेिा प्रिान कर रही है। 31 माचव, 2015 तक 54,245 प्रयोक्ताओं ने इंटरनेट सेिा का उपयोग ककया।
14.2 बाल अिुभागः केंद्रीय पस् ु तकालय (एस.पी.मुखजी मागव), सरोजनी नगर तथा पटे ल नगर ब्स्थत
पुस्तकालयों में नई पस् ु तकें तथा र्ी.िी.र्ी संग्रह उपललध कराकर नया सुसब्जजत िाल अनुभाग तैयार ककया गया।
इन तीन पस् ु तकालयों के िाल अनुभागों को विशभन्न आकर्वक रं गों से, नए गेम / खखलौनों से सुसब्जजत कर नया रूप प्रिान ककया गया और इसका पाठकों द्िारा काफी उपयोग ककया जा रहा है। 14.3 डी.वी.डी.संग्रहः
केंद्रीय पस् ु तकालय (एस.पी.मुखजी मागव), सरोजनी नगर, पटे ल नगर, करोल िाग़,
िाहिरा, विनोिा पुरी, जनक पुरी, नरे ला तथा आर.के.परु म ब्स्थत नौ पस् ु तकालयों में नया र्ी.िी.र्ी. कानवर तैयार ककया गया। 31, माचव, 2015 तक 92 पंजीकृत सिस्यों को 2,838 सी.र्ी./ र्ी.िी.र्ी. पररचाशलत ककए गए । 15 समुिाय के र्वकास के कायिकलापों का आयोजि दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी में ग्रीष्म कालीन अिकाि के िौरान 19 मई से 20 जन ू , 2014 तक साधनहीन
तथा समाज के कमजोर िगव की सहायता के शलए ‘क्रकताबें कुछ कहती हैं’ के अंतगवत विविध गनतविधधयों का
आयोजन ककया गया। इन गनतविधधयों में स्कूल के िच्चों हे तु कफल्म िो, स्टोरी टे शलंग, विज्ञान कायविाला, अंगूठा धचत्रकारी कायविाला, पेपर फोब्ल्र्ंग एिं क्राफ्ट कायविाला और रोल प्ले कायविाला जैसे कायवक्रमों का आयोजन ककया गया। इन कायविालाओं हे तु लेखकों, विर्य-वििेर्ज्ञों को िल ु ाया गया। एक सत्र जापान के दहरोशिमा और नागासाकी में परमाणु िम धगराने और मानि जानत पर पडें इसके खतरनाक प्रभाि की िोहरी त्रासदियों को समवपवत ककया गया। दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी की ब्रेल लाइब्रेरी में स्थापिा दिवस समारोह

दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी का ब्रेल विभाग 1963 में केंद्रीय पस् ु तकालय में खोला गया। िाि में 1979 में यह
पुस्तकालय, लाल िहािरु िास्त्री मागव, नई दिल्ली में ललाइंर् ररलीफ एसोशसएिन पररसर में स्थानांतररत कर दिया
गया। 27 अक्ति ू र को लाइब्रेरी की स्थापना दििस पर दृब्ष्टहीन पाठकों के शलए विविध प्रनतयोधगताएं आयोब्जत की जाती हैं। ररपोटव िर्व के िौरान 27.10.2014 से 30.10.2014 तक ब्रेल विभाग द्िारा दृब्ष्टहीन पाठकों के शलए िावर्वक प्रनतयोधगताओं का आयोजन ककया गया ब्जनमें आस-पास के विद्यालयों के दृब्ष्टहीन पाठकों ने भाग शलया। 17. दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी में आयोब्जत कायिक्रम
बाल दिवस उत्सव
िाल दििस के अिसर पर दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी में विविध कायवक्रम आयोब्जत ककए गए। 08.11.2014 को
केंद्रीय पस् ु तकालय और सरोजनी नगर लाइब्रेरी में स्टोरी टे शलंग सत्र आयोब्जत ककया गया। 11.11.2014 को सरोब्जनी नगर लाइब्रेरी में "ग्रीन योर स्कूल " विर्य पर कायविाला आयोब्जत की गई। पंडर्त जिाहर लाल नेहरू की 125 िीं जयंती के अिसर पर 14.11.2014 को सरोजनी नगर लाइब्रेरी में नेहरू जी पर पस् ु तकें प्रिशिवत की गई।
12.11.2014 को पटे ल नगर िाखा पस् ु तकालय में स्टोरी टे शलंग सत्र का आयोजन ककया गया। 13.11.2014 को िाहिरा िाखा पस् ु तकालय में स्टोरी टे शलंग सत्र एिं कायविाला का आयोजन ककया गया।
14-20 िवम्बर, 2014 तक लाइब्रेरी सप्ताह का आयोजि
दिनांक 17-11-2014 को नरे ला उपिाखा में स्कूली िच्चों के शलए पें दटग प्रनतयोधगता का आयोजन ककया गया।

18. स्वच्छ भारत अशभयाि दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी में 25.09.2014 से 02.10.2014 तक स्िच्छ भारत अशभयान चलाया गया। स्टाफ के समस्त सिस्यों ने 02.10.2014 को स्िच्छता संिंधी प्रनतज्ञा ली तथा पस् ु तकालय पररसर, पुस्तकें, रै क, पाकव, मोिाइल िैन, पररचालन काउं टर तथा िौचालय आदि की साफ- सफाई की। स्टाफ के सिस्यों ि पाठकों में स्िच्छता के िारे में जागरूकता फैलाई गई। दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी में स्िच्छता संिंधी साइनेज लगाए गए तथा र्स्टिीन रखे गए। स्िच्छता पर लाइब्रेरी के पाठकों में ननिंध प्रनतयोधगता भी आयोब्जत की गई। पोस्टर, पम्पलेट, आदि के माध्यम से भी साफ- सफाई, स्िच्छता के िारे में जागरूकता फैलाई गई। 19. जिसूचिा अधिकार अधिनियम संस्कृनत मंत्रालय के आिे ि सं. 21-61/07-सीर्ीएन दिनांक 18.02.2014 के अनुपालन में सक्षम प्राधधकारी द्िारा जनसच ू ना अधधकार अधधननयम 2005 (2005 का 22 िां) की धारा 5(1) ि

इस िर्व दिल्ली पब्ललक लाइब्रेरी का कायव सामान्यतया संतोर्जनक रहा। यह लाइब्रेरी अपनी सेिाओं में िद् ृ धध

DELHI PUBLIC LIBRARY ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2014-2015 The Delhi Public Library was established in 1951 by the then Ministry of Education, Govt. of India with financial and technical assistance from the UNESCO as a pilot project. Presently, Delhi Public Library is functioning under the administrative control of Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. From a small library located in Old Delhi, it has since been developed into a premier public library system in the country covering the entire Metropolitan city consisting of a Central Library, a Zonal Library, 3 Branch Libraries, 24 Sub-Branch Libraries, 01 Community Library, 09 Resettlement Colonies Libraries, One Braille Library, 82 Mobile Service Points (including 20 Braille Mobile library points) and 25 Deposit Stations. Besides providing free library services to the people, children and adult alike, irrespective of any distinction of sex, caste, creed and religion. DPL also looks after their recreational needs and harness the latent and potential of the members of the public by providing a platform for social education. The library has been expanding its services as a centre for dissemination of knowledge and culture. It is increasingly felt that the library should not merely serve as a centre for lending books, but should also grow as a living organization devoted to promote intellectual pursuits, create community rapport among its readers. A brief account of the activities of the DPL during the period 2014-15 is enumerated in following paragraphs:(1)
GOVERNING BODY: Delhi Library Board, the Governing Body of the Delhi Public Library consists of 16 members headed by the Chairman, nominated by the Minister of Culture, Govt. of India. Director General, DPL is the ex-officio member Secretary of the Board. In addition, there are various Sub-Committees constituted by the Board to organize various activities of the DPL namely Executive & Finance Committee, Books Advisory Committee, Departmental Promotion Committee etc. During the year under report following meetings were held. (2) LIBRARY ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE : 2.1 Staff: The library has sanctioned staff strength of 449 comprising of 329 professionals and 120 Non-Professionals, out of which 214 posts are lying vacant. Efforts are being made to fill up the vacant posts. The day to day staff shortage is compensated by outsourcing various services. 2.2 Finance: The Delhi Public Library is fully funded by Govt. of India. DPL received grant in aid to the tune of Rs.26,27,00,000.00 (Non-Plan Rs. 21,02,00,000.00 and Plan Rs. 5,25,00,000.00). TECHNICAL SERVICES:3.1 Books: Books are purchased by Books Purchase & Processing Division for the entire library system on the basis of selection done by the Book Advisory Committees in English, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi books. During the year 59,570 books were purchased and added to the stock. During the year 79,893 Books were withdrawn from the Stock. The net book stock of the library at the end of the year was 16,68,258. 3.3 Binding: Books are bound commercially after obtaining quotations from book binders every year. During the year under report 3,402 books, 212 Gazettes, 24 Newspapers and 12 Magazines were got bound by the library 3.4 Gift and Exchange Department: The Gift and Exchange Department collects books and reading material from various sources after due selection as per the needs of the library. One of the tenets on which the Library was conceived was that membership should be free without any subscription (and that a refundable security deposit only should be charged when a suitable guarantor could not be found.) Anyone fulfilling the above condition can enroll as a member after filling the prescribed membership form priced Rs.20/- only. Now, the readers can download the membership form from the DPL website. Enrolment is valid for five years, which can be renewed again. Membership card is to be verified by any Gazetted Officer/elected public representative/M.B.B.S. Doctor/lawyer/Bank Manager/ Charted Accountant etc. or by paying Rs. 1000/- refundable Security Deposit. Members are given one to three Borrowers Tickets depending upon the size of the library service unit, against which books are issued for 14 days, which can be renewed further.

DETAILED REPORT ON LIBRARY SERVICES: (5) CENTRAL LIBRARY: 5.1 Adult Lending Department: Central Library situated at S. P. Mukherjee Marg is the first library started in the year 1951. For the past 64 years this library has been providing useful service to the readers through out the day. During the year under report this library has lent 89048 books for home reading to its 27667 registered members. 5.2 Reference Section: The Reference Section at the Central Library is used by members as well as non-members. Reference Books, Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Gazettes etc. are consulted in the Reference Section by Research Scholars, writers, students & general readers. Reference Queries are answered over phone, in person and in writing. Photocopy facilities are also available to readers. During the year 12,864 books were consulted in the Reference Section. 5.3 Children Department: The Children Department is exclusively opened to readers below 15 years of age. During the year under report, the department has a membership of 4,263. It lent 14484 books to the registered members. (6)
ZONAL/BRANCH LIBRARIES: 6.1 Zonal Library: The first Zonal Library at Sarojini Nagar was started in the year 1985 is popular among the readers of South Delhi. During the year under report this library has lent 70,568 books for home reading to its 16,228 registered members. 6.2 Branches: The library’s three branches situated at Patel Nagar, Karol Bagh and Shahadra have a total membership of 23,575. During this year these libraries issued 1,78,889 books to its registered members. The Reference Section of the Zonal library and three branch libraries are gaining popularity day by day. Newspapers are available for consultation to research scholars, students and other general readers. 6.3 Sub-Branches: During the year under report the library's 24 sub-branches had a total membership of 42,023. These units issued 3,54,285 books to their registered borrowers. 6.4 Community Libraries: The library running one community library at Lodhi Road in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. 5 6.5 Libraries at Resettlement Colonies: At present there are 09 libraries in resettlement colonies inhabited by the weaker sections of the society. EXTENSION SERVICES: 7.1 Deposit Stations: This is an innovative scheme run by Societies/Associations in their respective colonies. We lend books and impart initial training to run a library service under the supervision of Delhi Public Library. The scheme is known as Deposit Station. At present DPL is operating 25 Deposit Stations in different places in the NCT of Delhi. During the year these Deposit Stations have the membership of 2,016 and issued 11,181 books to their registered members. 7.2 Mobile Libraries: Delhi Public Library had restarted the Mobile Library Services from February 2005 onwards after purchase and body fabrication of five new CNG chassis. DPL is operating mobile library vans in 82 areas in the National Capital Territory of Delhi and it has 2664 registered members and issued 15,056 books to readers as on 31.3.2015. Apart from the above Delhi Public Library also operates mobile library services for the visually handicapped. Presently Braille Department is serving its clientele by 20 Braille Mobile Points.

SPECIAL SERVICES: 8.1 Social Education Services: This Department organizes group activities among the adult and children in the Central Library for the development of individual’s inner talent/aptitude. At present Drama, Music, Literature study, Naturopathy and Homeopathic studies etc groups are functioning. It also arranges book exhibitions, film shows, television programmes and lectures etc. for the reader’s benefits. To participate in these activities it is a pre-condition that one has to be a member of the library.

6 The library c a t e r s to promote cultural interest of its members and the general public through group activities and audiovisual programme. During the year under report 115 such programmes were organized in the Library. These include plays, group meetings, lectures and exhibitions. Total attendances for these programmes were 6,875. Activities of Social Education Deptt. The Social Education Deptt. of Delhi Public Library organized the Annual Competition at Central Library from 5-12 April, 2014. Following competitions were conducted and participants were awarded with cash prize and certificate.

Following competitions were conducted and participants were awarded with cash prize and certificate. There was overwhelming response from DPL readers and Children. Total 280 readers participated in different competitions. 8.2 Gramophone and Music Cassettes Library: The Delhi Public Library also operates a gramophone records/audio/video cassettes Lending service for its registered members for free of charge. These records/cassettes comprise classical instrument and light music, bhajans, ghazals, film songs etc. Readers of DPL can make use of them through Head phones/Computer Accessories. These Records, Cassettes were issued to 362 registered members. Total issue of records/DVDs was 392. Total stock of gramophone/records/cassettes is 9,431 and DVDs are 1,322.

8.3 Braille Department: The Braille Department is the specialized service of the Delhi Public Library, which is devoted to cater to the reading needs of the visually handicapped and cultivates reading habits among them. This Department not only provides Braille books but also transcribes books in Braille. The total collection of the Braille Department is 11,422 books (Hindi & English) at the end of the year. The Braille Department issued 11,710 books to 830 blind members. 8.4 Service to Prisoners: The library provides its services to the prisoners in the Central Tihar Jail of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. During the year under report 18,728 books were issued to 1,386 registered members of Central Jail and its 5 deposit stations. 8.5 Reading Rooms: (Use of periodicals and newspapers): The library is continuously engaged in developing reading interests among the people of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. It has provision of Reading Rooms in all the service units to provide information on various walks of life by making available daily newspapers and popular periodicals and journals. During the year under report 3,84,049 persons availed this facility. (9)
DEPOSITORY LIBRARY: 9.1 Delivery of Books Act Division: Delhi Public Library was declared by the Govt. of India as the fourth Recipient Library under the Delivery of Books and Newspapers Act 1954 (as amended in 1956) on 16th December, 1981. As per the provision of the Act, the Delhi Public Library is entitled to receive one copy of each publication from publishers in India at free of cost in all Indian languages. The D. B. Act Division monitors the collection of the books/publications received under D.B. Act. During the year DPL has received 7,073 Books in all Indian languages. The total stock of this Division as on 31.3.2015 was 3,26,694. Besides books, approximately 1,000 popular periodicals and all leading newspapers are being received regularly under the Act in all languages.

9.2 : Asian Development Bank Publications: Delhi Public Library has been nominated as Depository library for Asian Development Bank (ADB) publications since 1994. ADB publications are kept in the Central Library for the consultation of readers. (10)
LIBRARY AUTOMATION ACTIVITIES: 10.1: Computerization: The computerization of the Delhi Public Library activities was initiated in 1995 by installing computers and accomplished by the UNESCO’s CDS/ISIS software package, which enable us to create text database. The Delhi Public Library has decided to install and implement Koha open source integrated library management software (ILMS) to expedite automation of in-house activities, this was carried out by the DPL own personnel with the guidance of library and information experts. The implementation was started from April 2007. In the 1 st phase of implementation, one server and back up server was installed in the Central library. The implementation of Koha open source software processed bibliographical information of books and publications received under the D.B. Act. The Bibliographic data of books can be accessed and downloaded free of charge from the official website of http://dpl.gov.in/ or www.delhipubliclibrary.in. 10.2 Library website: Delhi Public Library has its own library website http://www.dpl.gov.in which contains details of library branches, opening hours, services, special activities and programmes etc. As on 31st March 2015 a total 30,662 users visited our library website. RETRO-CONVERSVION OF BIBLIOGRPHIC RECORDS The Delhi Public Library has nearly 16 lakh (multiple copies) book collection in the central library, zonal library, branches, sub-branches, deposit stations, community libraries etc., spread across NCT of Delhi. Retro-conversion of such a massive collection into online catalogue is a huge and time-consuming task. Hence the DPL has started the retro-conversion of bibliographical records of English, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi languages available in the Central Library in the first phase. Retro-conversion of catalogue being a massive work, should be carried out as a crash programme in a time-bound manner and the library staff remains busy with routine jobs of the library hence the work is outsourced after calling open quotation. This work is undertaken under the “National Mission on Libraries Project” of Ministry of Culture.

TECHNICAL ADVICE & PRACTICAL TRAINING IN LIBRARY SCIENCE: It is one of the important functions of the library to render technical advice and to provide practical training to Students/Institutions in the field of Library Science. 33 Library & Information Science Students were given intensive practical training in different aspects of the library services. Apart from that, library was also visited by many library science students and distinguished librarians from other parts of the country.

TRAINING AND PARTICIPATION IN SEMINAR/CONFERENCE OF DPL STAFF:
During this financial year, 49 staff members were deputed to various Seminars, Conferences and Workshops. Three officials were deputed to participate in two days National Seminar on “Information Technology Tools and Techniques in Social Science Research” from 23-24 May, 2014 at Amritsar, Punjab. Three officials were deputed to participate in three days National Conference on “Library Space-Content Management for Networked Society” from 18-20 October, 2014 at Bangalore, Karnataka. One official was deputed to participate in three days National Workshop on “Library Automation (KOHA) & Content Management System (JOOMLA)” from 1921 Sept. 2014 at Jaipur, Rajasthan. Three officials were deputed to participate in the 17th National Convention on Knowledge, Library and Information Networking (NACLIN-2014) organized by DELNET & FIP from 9-11 December, 2014 at Pondicherry. Three officials were deputed to participate in three days International Conference on “Convergence of Libraries, Archives and Museums” from 27-29 November, 2014 at Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNACA), New Delhi. Three officials were deputed for two days International Conference on “Knowledge Organization in Academic Libraries (I-KOAL-2015) at Manipal University, Jaipur, Rajasthan from 2-3 January, 2015 Three officials were deputed for five days National Workshop on “Open Source Software:Koha, D space and Joomla” at Mahatma Gandhi Central Library, IIT, Roorkee from 2-6 February, 2015. Six officials were deputed for two days conference on “Transforming Public Libraries in India” from 17-18 March, 2015 at DELNET Campus, New Delhi. 14 officials were deputed for two days conference on “Transforming Public Libraries in India at India International Centre, New Delhi from 17-18 March 2015. Two officials were deputed National Conference on “Knowledge Management in Libraries-KMLIC-2015 at Aligarh, AMU, UP from 18-19 March, 2015. Five officials were deputed for one day workshop on “Transforming Public Libraries in India” at DELNET, New Delhi on 19th March 2015. DPL represents India in the International Network of Emerging Library Innovators (INELI) which is the Global Libraries Initiative (GL) of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. (14) PROGRESSIVE USE OF HINDI AS OFFICIAL LANGUAGE IN DPL: The Delhi Public Library held 4 meetings of “Rajbhasha Karyanwayan Samiti” to review Hindi work in office. The DPL celebrated the “Hindi Saptah” in the Central Library from 15.09.2014 to 21.09.2014. During the Hindi Saptaha, a number of competitions on Hindi Essay, Noting & drafting, Quiz, General Hindi Knowledge and Speech were organized for Hindi knowing/non-Hindi knowing staff members. Cash prize & certificates were given to all 23 winning participants at the end of the Hindi Saptah on 22.09.2014. On this occasion cash prizes were also given to staff members who worked in Hindi in their official work. Hindi section also conducted four Hindi workshops to promote Hindi in day to day office work. Hindi section also conducted four Rajbhasha Sangoshthi to promote Hindi language. The Hindi Translation unit of the DPL also undertook translation work of various documents, papers etc. under official language Act/Rules. Hindi Cell of Delhi Public library is publishing 8-9th Joint Addition of his Half-yearly magazine ‘Pustakalaya Pragati’. The Library is making efforts to promote the use of Hindi in day-to-day work.

PUBLIC INTERNET ACCESS SERVICE DPL is rendering free Internet access service in Central library, Patel Nagar Library, Sarojini Nagar Library, Vinoba Puri, Janak Puri, Karol Bagh, Shahadra, Narela and R.K.Puram Sect-8. Now the DPL is providing free Internet access service in 11 libraries in total. On 31st March 2015, a total of 54,245 readers used the Internet service of DPL.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH ACTIVITIES The Delhi Public Library organized a month long summer program in Sarojini Nagar Library with a theme of “Kitabein Kuchh Kehti Hain” from 19th May to 20th June 2014 as part of Community Outreach Program. Over 2000 children and their parents participated in the month-long programs with great enthusiasm. During the Community Outreach Activities Film shows, Storytelling sessions, fun with cartoon session, science workshop, nature workshop and environment related workshop was organized for school children. In the storytelling session the students were involved in the art of creative story writing with illustrations, improving vocabulary and sentence structures. In cartoon session how to make caricatures and cartoons, in Science Workshop children got lot of information about space, galaxies and planets. In Environment work shop children got knowledge about plants, animals, birds and endangered species. Writers, subject experts were called to conduct the workshops. A complete session was dedicated on Japan and twin tragedies of atom bombs dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 and Nagasaki on August 9, 1945 and its dangerous radiation effect on human beings. As part of the community outreach activities film show on “Hum bhi kuchh kam nahi” and other children films produced by Children’s Film Society and a storytelling session on 09.08.2014 was organized for school children. Storytelling sessions and film shows are regularly organized on every Second Saturdays for children in Sarojini nagar Library. A special story telling session on creative writing was organized in the Vinobha Puri library on 13.11.2014 on the day of Bal Diwas, the 125th birth anniversary of Pt. Nehru. More than 100 girls and boys from local government schools were participated in the session along with their teachers. Mariam Karim Ahlawat, an eminent writer led a wonderful session on creative writing and told to build up a story step by step in a simple way.

BRAILLE LIBRARY FOUNDATION DAY CELEBRATION: Braille Department of the Delhi Public Library opened in 1963 in the Central Library, later it moved to the Blind Relief Association campus at Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, New Delhi in 1979. On the Library foundation day i.e, 27th October, Braille Department conducted annual competitions for the visually impaired readers from 27.10.2014 to 30.10.2014. Visually impaired readers from the nearby schools participated in the annual competitions.

CELEBRATIONS IN THE DPL
Children Day celebration: On the occasion of Children Day the DPL has organized many programs. The Story Telling Session was organized on 08.11.2014 at Central Library and Sarojini Nagar Library. The Workshop title “Green Your School” was organized on 11.11.2014 in Sarojini Nagar Library. On the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru books on Nehruji were exhibited in the Library on 14.11.2014. The Story Telling Session was organized on 12.11.2014 at Patel Nagar Branch Library. The Story Telling Session and a workshop was organized on 13.11.2014 in Shahadra Branch Library.
Celebration of Library Week from 14-20 November, 2014 : On 17-11-2014 a Painting Competition was organized for School children at Narela Sub-Branch Library. The Story Telling Sessions were organized in different units of the DPL on these dates:

(19) PHOTO EXHIBITION A photo exhibition “Ek Bharat–Shreshtha Bharat” was organized by Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, at the premises of Sarojini Nagar Library from 11-14 August 2014. The exhibition was inaugurated by Sh. B.S.Baswan, Chairman, DLB. School children, teachers and principals of local schools were invited to the exhibition. Painting, dance and drama competitions were organized. The Photo exhibition that highlighted development of villages, small cities, green growth, internal security and women’s’ safety. Other topics including Incredible India. The exhibition also presented an overview of Sabka Sath – Sabka Vikas, a Government of India initiative for inclusive development. (20) INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY On the women’s day a book exhibition was arranged on women and women empowerment and also exhibited articles written on women issues in different newspapers and magazines for the readers.

13 (21) SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN: The Delhi Public Library celebrated Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in all the service units from 25th September to 2nd October 2014. All the staff members took the cleanliness pledge on 2nd October 2014 and cleaned the library premises, books, book racks, park area, mobile vans, issue & return counter area and toilets. Brain storming and awareness on cleanliness to the staff and readers was conducted. The DPL arranged signage on cleanliness and dustbins at appropriate locations. Conducted essay competition to the readers of the library on cleanliness. Created awareness on the importance of cleanliness, sanitation and hygiene through posters and pamphlets to the staff and members of the library.

GENERAL REVIEW : The functioning of Delhi Public Library during the report has been generally satisfactory. The library is trying its best to attain its objectives by augmenting its services. Besides, the DPL is receiving requests from various organizations of Delhi from urban as well as rural areas to open new libraries or to provide mobile library services in their localities. However, DPL is making all its efforts to open deposit st at ions service in these upcoming colonies. The network of DPL is spread all over Delhi. As part of the expansion programme, DPL was given land in Ashok Vihar and Patparganj. The DDA has given extension to construct the library buildings on these plots up to 31.12.2015. With the relentless pursuit and efforts of the DPL succeeded in obtaining the clearance and approval for the building plans of Ashok Vihar plot from North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) hence part payment of advance amount was made to CPWD. The DPL obtained clearance from NDMC for Bawana library building and full advance payment made to CPWD. Efforts are being made to construct library building at Patparganj plot through CPWD. Renovation and entire electrical work of Patel Nagar library building was undertaken during the year of report. R.K.Puram, Sector-8 library is also renovated and fitted air-conditions for the use of members.
