APPEAL OF STUDENT RECORD INFORMATION Background There may be times when a parent/legal guardian or a student 16 years of age or older, may wish to appeal the accuracy or completeness of information contained in the official Student Record (Cumulative Record Card). Such an appeal process will provide the parent/legal guardian and or student with an opportunity to review the content of the Student Record and request to have the matter rectified. Procedures 1. Pursuant to the School Act,​ ​under Section 123 (4), a person may review a Student Record and may appeal, to the principal, the accuracy or completeness within a reasonable time from the date that the parent/legal guardian or student was informed of the information within the Student Record. In the case of an error or incompleteness in the information, the principal will rectify the record. If the Student Record is not deemed to be inaccurate or incomplete, the principal will inform the appellant. The principal will also inform the appellant of the next stage of the appeal process. 2. If the person is dissatisfied with the response from the principal, they may appeal to the appropriate superintendent. The superintendent will review the Student Record and inform the appellant of the decision regarding the appeal. If the Student Record is not deemed to be inaccurate or incomplete the superintendent will inform the appellant of the next stage of the appeal process. 3. If the appellant wishes, the next step in the appeal process is to request a review of the Student Record by the chief superintendent. The chief superintendent will inform the appellant of the final decision forthwith. At the request of the appellant, under Section 124 (3) of the ​School Act​, this decision can be reviewed by the Minister of Education.
