Application for a continuous subscription to a place in a Mother Tongue Teaching group Who has the right to Mother Tongue Tuition? Students who have a parent/carer with a native language other than Swedish should be offered mother tongue teaching during their primary school years if: 1. The language is the pupil's everyday language in the home, and 2. The students have basic knowledge of the language. A student belonging to one of the national minorities should be offered mother tongue teaching in the student’s national minority. (Education Act 2010: 800, 10 kap7§, 11kap Section 10, Chapter 9, Section 10) Mother tongue tuition may not include more than one language for a student. A Romani pupil from abroad may be provided mother tongue tuition in two languages, if there are special reasons. (School Ordinance Chapter 5. Section 9). As preschool classes are not covered by the Education Act, students have no legal right to mother tongue education, but if the child speaks their parents' native language at home every day and has basic knowledge of the language, Malmö will try to accommodate requests. Continuous subscription? The student attends mother tongue instruction in the designated group, which may be on different school grounds than the student’s school. Mother tongue instruction is voluntary but the attendance policy still applies, any absences are recorded in the municipality of absence system. To end the subscription site must be terminated. The Termination form can be found on www.malmo.se or you can get it from the student's school. Completed form must be submitted to the school administrator at the student's school. If the subscription is not cancelled it ends automatically when the student finishes grade 9.
