Argumentative Essay (150 pts.) Choose a debatable topic. Your essay must attempt to persuade the reader to adopt a certain point of view or take a particular action. It must do the following: (1) frame your argument according to the Classical, Rogerian, and/or Toulmin Method (2) utilize ethos, pathos, and logos by using sound reasoning and supportive facts from reliable sources (3) define key terms using synonyms/examples (ostensive)/ stipulation (4) demonstrate deductive/inductive reasoning (5) avoid logical fallacies (6) use 7 sources which should not make up more than 10-15% of your paper Keep in mind that the success of an essay is based on the clarity and sufficiency of its examples. Avoid generalizing. Avoid using vague statements and hollow arguments. After reading your essay, your audience should have a clear understanding of the overall argument and its supporting evidence presented by you. Your essay MUST be 10 full pages in length (not including the works cited page). Failure to meet the page requirement will result in the deduction of 75 pts. (F/half credit). You MUST include at least 7 different sources relevant to your argument using correct MLA citation. Failure to meet source requirement will result in a grade no higher than a C. Yes, everything must be in MLA format. Your rough draft must be typed, double-spaced, 12 size font, Times New Roman. Please bring 3 copies to workshop (10 pts. deducted from final grade if your forget to provide 3 copies). Participants in your workshop circle will provide feedback and make edits to your essay.
