F ROM THE PASTOR I think I’m a staycation person. A “staycation” is when one takes time off from work but does not travel for a vacation as we think of it. Typically, one just stays home and sees the local area, for example. That’s not to say that I don’t travel, it’s just that when I do, I tend to visit family and friends. That some of them live in really cool places is purely coincidental! I’m happy that the summer at St. Athanasius can feel like a staycation. It’s not that I don’t work the same number of hours, but it’s more like the ship is in dry-dock, so to speak. Rather than the day to day pace of full operations, the summer is an opportunity to refurbish the facilities and to ponder how to do a better job when the busier season starts back up. So whether it’s the condition of our facilities or the content of our Faith Formation programs or even perfecting our media resources (parish website, parish app, etc) for better outreach, the whole staff and I are spending the summer engaged in trying to make things better. Many other folks have contributed, as always, by offering their “time, talent, or treasure.” I hesitate to name names since someone will be left out, but a great word of thanks for those who put sweat and talent into improving our facilities or programs, those who gave gifts to make the improvements possible, and those who give so much of their time to volunteer on behalf of the parish or those who depend on it. Your contribution turns summer parish work into something more like a staycation.
School Supplies Collection Our annual school supply collection will begin next weekend, August 20 - 21. We will be collecting new school supplies to benefit children whose families are experiencing difficult times. As you shop for supplies to prepare your children to return to school, please consider assisting those families who cannot afford to buy basic school supplies for their children. The collection will benefit students in grades K-12. Any of the following new supplies would be appreciated: *pens/pencils/crayons/markers/colored pencils *lined paper/notebooks/writing tablets *scissors *pencil cases/boxes
*glue sticks *1 and 3 subject spiral notebooks *construction paper *stickers
We will be collecting supplies through September 4th. Boxes for donations will be in the back of the church. Thank you for helping more children get off to a good start this school year!
