20th Sunday in Ordinary Time A college graduating class leaves behind the security of school and focuses on the possibilities of the future. It can be a daring adventure as students send out resumes, go to interviews and dream of happiness and great careers. Some have the ability to think big and willingly take on new challenges. An open mind and desire to succeed can lead to great and wonderful things. The woman who approaches Jesus has an open heart and a great desire for grace. She makes her request of Jesus and is persistent because she knows that she will not be denied. The Lord acknowledges her courage and her faith and grants her request. Believing in the Gospel means seeing the world through the eyes of the Lord, It means we love others and treat them as we want to be treated. It means that we do not go into the world empty handed, but rather we are armed with confidence. Faith presents us with many challenging opportunities, including feed the hungry, comfort the dying, bury the dead, and admonish the sinner. Giving witness to our beliefs and practicing what we preach are the first steps to living the life of a disciple. Choose God, choose to do what is right and there will be no limit to the great and wonderful things you—and He—can accomplish.

Faith Facts - Did You Know ?? August 24th is the feast day of St. Bartholomew the Apostle. He is one of the twelve Apostles and was introduced to Jesus through St. Philip. Unfortunately, not very much is known about St. Bartholomew compared to some of the others Apostles. According to tradition, after Christ's Death, Resurrection, and Ascension, Bartholomew evangelized in the East, in Mesopotamia, Persia, around the Black Sea, and perhaps reaching as far as India. Bartholomew converted the king of Armenia by casting out a demon from the chief idol in the temple and then destroying all of the idols. In a rage, the king's older brother ordered Bartholomew to be seized, beaten, and executed. We do know that he was martyred by being flayed alive in Armenia. Bartholomew is the patron saint against nervous diseases. Catholocism.about.com
August 20 ~ Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Take a moment and look around you at Mass today. Are there people there whom you have never met? or come from a different culture? Today’s scripture make it clear that the message of God’s love is not to be squandered and kept to ourselves – it is for everyone! How will you be a welcoming presence to the stranger or immigrant in your midst? Pray for the grace to do your part to make your parish a “house of prayer for all people,” where all are welcome! 3
