Milk Bags Please do not bring any more milk bags to church. We are no longer collecting them, since the seniors in Guelph are not making the mats any more.

Excellent Catholic Books Available Please take some time to look at the books that we have on display outside of the gift shop. They are reasonably priced and make for good summer reading. We have books for the youth; books by Chesterton, Scott Hahn, Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC and others. Prices range from $2.50 - $28.95, most are priced between $5.00 & $10.00. A book that I highly recommend is: 33 Days to Morning Glory by Fr. Gaitley, MIC which is a Do-ItYourself Retreat This book takes writings from St. Louis de Montfort - St. Maximilian Kolbe - St. Mother Teresa and St. John Paul II. The days’ reflections inspire, enrich and draw us on that continual journey of conversion and Faith. If there are books that you are looking for please contact: Margaret Aitken 519-856-9823

Do You Have Ancestors Buried In St. Boniface – Maryhill, Old Walled Cemetery? Many of the stones have deteriorated beyond repair. Some stones are in pieces and no longer erect. These stones have all been photographed and graves documented. These monuments will be removed. An account has been set up for anyone wishing to donate to the “Monument Fund”. A tax receipt will be issued. We plan to install a single monument listing the first and last name and year of birth and death. A list can be found on the bulletin board in the Welcome Area at St. John’s Church.

Mass with Payers for Healing The Spiritan Prayer Group will be sponsoring a Mass with prayers for healing afterwards, celebrated by Father Eric Jensen, on Wednesday, August 26 at 8:00 pm, at Sacred Heart Church, corner of Alice and Huron Street, Guelph.

Celebration, Work and Prayer “We begin now a series of catechises on three facets of family life: celebration, work and prayer. Let us turn first to celebrations which, as we see from the Story of Creation, are the invention of God, who on the seventh day rested from his work. It is God himself who teaches us the importance of dedicating time to contemplating and enjoying the fruits of our labours, not only in our employment or profession, but through every action by which we as men and women cooperate in God’s creative work, even in times of difficulty. In the workplace too, we celebrate – a birthday, a marriage, a new baby, a farewell or a welcome. True moments of celebration make us pause from our work, because they remind us that we are made in the image and likeness of God, who is not a slave to work, but the Lord of work!

DATE Year of Consecrated Life Congregation of the Resurrection In Paris France on February 17, 1836, a group of men under the leadership of a layman, Bogdan Janski, sought to live the dream of God by forming a religious Community which they would name the Congregation of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. On Easter Sunday, March 27, 1842, Peter Semenenko and Jerome Kajsiewicz, along with five other clerics, professed their first Religious Vows in the catacombs of St. Sebastian in Rome. The vision and dream of these men was to dedicate themselves to the Risen Saviour and call themselves, “Brothers of the Resurrection”. These men are our elder brothers whose lives we seek to emulate! Historically, about half of our men in the Ontario Kentucky Province ministered in high school and university education. The other half were in parishes. Presently, most of our full time active men minister in parishes, which include: Sacred Heart, St. Louis, St. Francis, and St. Mary’s in the KitchenerWaterloo area, St. Joseph’s in Brantford, St. Joseph’s and St. Stanislaus in Hamilton, Ontario and St. Theresa’s Cathedral in Hamilton, Bermuda, along with St. Boniface Parish in Louisville Kentucky. One priest is in University Education in Maryland. Fr. Louis Funcken founded St. Jerome’s (College) University in 1865. To date SJU has graduated one cardinal, seven bishops and numerous priests. Our entire community is divided into three provinces and one region. Worldwide we have about three hundred members in 17 different countries. It is the desire of Resurrectionists to bring Hope to God’s World; we are committed to bring about the Resurrection of Society. More info can be found at www.resurrectionists.ca or

The Red Mass The annual Red Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King in Hamilton on Wednesday, September 9 at 9:30 am. The St. Thomas More Lawyers’ Guild sponsors this annual Mass that originated in the 13th century. The faithful come together to invoke the wisdom of the Holy Spirit upon all those who work in the court system, law enforcement and protective services: we pray for Divine guidance and strength upon them and all that they do for society. The celebrant of the Mass is the Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, Bishop of Hamilton. Father Ian Duffy, Pastor of St. Ann’s Parish in Ancaster, is the homilist. All are welcome to this great annual tradition of worship and prayer.

Pope Francis on Twitter “When we experience the merciful love of the Father, we are more able to share this joy with our neighbour.” ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

And so we must never be slaves to work but rather its master! Yet we know that millions of men and women, even children, are slaves to work. The obsession with economic profit and technical efficiency puts the human rhythms of life at risk. Moments of rest, especially on Sunday, are sacred because in them we find God. The Sunday Eucharist brings to our celebrations every grace of Jesus Christ: his presence, his love and his sacrifice; his forming us into a community, and his way of being with us. Everything is transfigured by his grace: work, family, the joys and trials of each day, even our sufferings and death. May we always recognize the family as the privileged place to understand, guide and sustain the gifts which arise from our celebrations, especially the Sunday Eucharist.” Pope Francis, August 11, 2015

St. John’s Parish Mission Statement We believe deeply that Jesus Christ is in our midst, in ourselves and in each other. In our faith journey we will be the heart, hands, feet and voice of Jesus Christ, reaching out to all.

World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia Light in a Dark World All of us are fallen. The disorder in each and every human heart has a social context and social consequences. The communion for which we were created is threatened by our disordered desires, our economic situations, by pornography, contraception, divorce, and legal or intellectual confusion. But love is our mission, and the Church seeks an alternative social life, a community premised on Jesus’ mercy, generosity, freedom, and fidelity. The Church’s many ministries further the culture of life, such aid to the poor, support for natural family planning, or articulating a more coherent philosophy for law. When Catholics resist divorce, or same-sex “marriage,” or confused revisions to marital law, we also take responsibility for fostering communities of support and love.

A Home for the Wounded Heart Jesus taught many things about sex and marriage which were difficult to live in both ancient times and today. But we are not alone as we face these difficulties. Life in the Body of Christ is meant to be lived as interdependent members, who build one another up in love. The Church’s teaching, sacraments, and community all exist to help us on the journey. With patience, forgiveness, and trust, in the Body of Christ, together we can heal and live in ways that might otherwise seem impossible.
