Part 2: The Drawing 1. After studying Egyptian hieroglyphics, create your own set of 26 hieroglyphics corresponding to each letter of our alphabet. a. Simple b. Original c. Consider Variety and Unity d. Keep all rough work 2. Place a copy of this alphabet on the back of your Final Drawing when done. 3. Use this alphabet to write out the information about your god/goddess a. From your research b. In the negative space of your drawing c. Not too much emphasis d. Neat rows and columns 4. Put a copy of your sources (Bibliography for your research) on the back of your Final Drawing when done . 5. Begin your rough work for your drawing a. Play with composition – W hat will go where in your drawing? How big will each component be? Remember that you must include: • An interesting border that helps create unity • The god/goddess • A large cartouche with the g/g’s name in real Egyptian hieroglyphics (Use Egyptian hieroglyphics for the cartouche) • Information about the g/g in the negative space using your alphabet (floor to ceiling, wall to wall in straight lines) **Every time the g/g’s name is used, it should be in a cartouche 6. Select your colour scheme
7. Create a border (remembering the lessons on principles of design especially balance, variety, unity, pattern) a. Do rough work for this first 8. LIGHTLY draw your god/goddess and his cartouche (using real Egyptian hieroglyphics) a. Remember to consider balance and your use of space 9. Add colour (remembering the lesson on principles or design especially balance, unity, emphasis and contrast) 10. In the negative space (around the cartouche and god/goddess, write out the information about the god/goddess in columns using your alphabet) 11. This is where you will appreciate having kept your alphabet (that you created) simple yet interesting. It should still be creative and original and have a sense of unity. 12. REMEMBER Get feedback along the way from peers and the teacher. Please make sure: ● there is not too much negative space (your g/g and cartouche are big enough) ● you have enough contrast and emphasis on the important components ● you show good technique and care ● you cite ALL your sources ● a copy of your alphabet, a transcription of the information you wrote, and your sources are all copied onto the back of the paper ● you do NOT fold it ● YOUR NAME IS ON THE BACK
