Heating Pad Cover Tutorial By: Karen Spahn

MATERIALS: 

Heating Pad (mine is 11.5 wide by 14 inches long)



1/2 yard of cotton or flannel fabric



Coordinating thread



Coordinating closure (I used snaps, you could also use Velcro)



General sewing supplies

1. Cut fabric for your cover out. From your fabric cut a piece out that is 2” wider than twice the width of your heating pad and 2.5” longer than your heating pad. If you are using Velcro for your closure you should make your cover 3” longer. For my 11.5 x14” heating pad, my fabric was 25” wide x16.5” in length.

2. Begin French Seam. Fold fabric in half length wise WST and stitch with a 1/4 seam around side and bottom of cover.

3. Complete French seam. Trim corner

3. Continued. Turn cover RST (& wrong side out) and pin.

3. Continued. Stitch 3/8 from edge along side and bottom of cover enclosing original 1/4 seam.

4. Hem edge. Turn unfinished opening under 1/4” and press.

4. Continued. Turn ironed edge under 1/2 inch and edge stitch. If you are using Velcro, turn under 1 inch and edge stitch.

5. Closure. Add snap or Velcro closure per manufacturer instructions. I chose to use 2 open ring SnapSetter snaps spaced equidistant on the cover opening. You can read a bit more how they work in this previous post. Your cover is now finished!
