Distillation : Basic (Aspen Hysys)

When simulation user want to simulate a distillation column, sometime they only have input stream information but they don’t know how many number of distillation column stages to simulate. User can guess how much number of stages in distillation, but there is a step user can use to find initial number of stages. This tutorial objective is to design simple distillation from beginning.

A. Find Pressure of Column Suppose user has feed information below, Fluid Package : Peng Robinson

Total mass flow = 14634.5 Kg/hr at saturated liquid

Feed then is introduced to separator with same operating condition

P = 14.92 , this pressure will be used for next design using shortcut column

B. Shortcut Distillation After user got pressure from previous simulation, that Pressure information is used to shortcut distillation simulation by using same feed

Make sure, Top Product Phase is Liquid

Distillation : Basic (Aspen Hysys) and then choose parameters. Fill black form of Parameters. For example, Reflux ratio = 2x Reflux minimum

Minimum reflux ratio = 9, External Reflux ratio = 9x2 = 18 , and then, click Performance tab.

Distillation : Basic (Aspen Hysys) Actual number of Trays = 72.7. This is theoretical tray for column. 73 trays is used in the simulati on. Optimal feed stage = 28.6 = stage number 29.

C. Rigorous Distillation On the Palette, choose Distillation Column, fill all information, and then Next

And then, Next, until last page

Choose Monitor, Set Specification, Distillation Rate = 10809.5 Kg/hr and Reflux Rate = 194534.5 Kg/hr, and then Run
