be going to VS. will

grammar When we use «be going to»: 1. actions which we intend to do in the near future: I am going to buy new clothes next week.

2. planned actions: I am going to have an appointment with my doctor at 4 p.m.

When we use «will»: 1. on-the-spot-decisions (future actions which we decide to do at the moment of speaking): It's cold in here. I will turn on the heating.

2. expressing hopes, fears, threats, offers, promises, warnings, predictions, etc.: I hope he will come on time. (hope) I am afraid I won't help you! (fear)

I am sure he will be the winner. (prediction) She will probably go to the par ty.
