Beaverland Farms was established in 2011 as a small-scale, neighborhoodintegrated “market garden.” In the three growing seasons, we have expanded to include growing on ten “vacant” lots by cutting down trees, collecting tons of garbage, and digging the whole garden by hand!
It currently stands at 67 beds, each 3’ wide and most standing at 100’ long. That’s close to 20,000 square feet of growing space! And there are more than 12 adjacent lots ready to be farmed; all they need is some digging and a bit of creativity and determination. And you can live on the farm in the amazing and dynamic neighborhood of Brightmoor! Please check us out on Facebook under “Beaverland Farms” and “Neighbors Building Brightmoor.”

Grown in Detroit: Sponsored by Keep Growing Detroit, the cooperative has been around since 2006 and provides members with an opportunity to sell at Detroit area farmers’ markets without collecting any fees or percentage of sales. See detroitagriculture.net for more details. As a member of GID we have access to: o Eastern Market Saturdays o Eastern Market Tuesdays o Wayne State Market o Wholesale accounts
•
Northwest Detroit Farmers’ Market (Thursdays) – Beaverland Farms has a well-established relationship with the NW Market and her customers. As most shoppers are local residents, they appreciate the local-grown food, supporting a local business, and the integration we have with our community and youth.
•
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA): Beaverland Farms had its inaugural CSA season in 2014, opening with approximately eight shares and ending with around twelve shares. As consumers became accustomed to the portion-sizes and quality of produce, we were able to add more customers and increase our positive reputation. Each share is for 20 weeks and costs $20/week with a $20 discount if paid in full. See attached flyer for more details.
•
Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue: As part of the CSA, we provided three shares to IADS on a weekly basis for their Friday night and Saturday morning meals
•
Friendship Circle of West Bloomfield: Starting with just weeks to go in the growing season, we added additional customers at the Friendship Circle who would order early in the week for a Tuesday delivery.
•
Aish of Huntington Woods: Partnering with Aish, we were able to have a weekly Tuesday market in Oak Park/Huntington Woods. Benefits of this market include a higher demand for specialty products (i.e. heirloom tomatoes, pie pumpkins) and higher-income consumers
Through the different outlets listed above, and other wholesale opportunities, it is easy to move product throughout the week to different markets and outlets. Additional farmers’ markets have expressed interest in having Beaverland Farms sell there in nearby in Hamtramck, Farmington Hills, and Redford.
