Biometrician: Alaska US Fish and Wildlife Service (GS9/11/12 Pathways program) The Alaska US Fish and Wildlife Service division of Fisheries and Ecological Services has a vacancy announcement for a Biometrician under the federal government Pathways program (see https://www.usajobs.gov/StudentsAndGrads ). The Pathways program allows applicants the opportunity to enter Federal Service while still a student or recent graduate; participants who successfully complete the program may be eligible for noncompetitive conversion to full time permanent employee status. Please note, to be eligible for this post, applicants need be enrolled students or have graduated within the past two years. The position will be located in Anchorage or Fairbanks, Alaska. Working closely with the senior Biometrician, the incumbent will work on a wide range of quantitative ecological and statistical analyses in support of fisheries, marine mammals, aquatic habitat, invasive species, and conservation development issues, inter alia. Examples of Biometrics projects include: abundance estimation with complex mark recapture studies for salmon species, statistical genetics related to marine mammal populations, habitat use modeling for Pacific salmon, operations research to prioritize research needs, and population dynamics modeling and stock assessment fish. Due to the nature of the position, we are seeking applicants with strong quantitative training, the ability to learn new techniques, and the drive to ensure research meets peer-review publication standards. In addition to helping out with extant fish and wildlife research projects at the Service, the incumbent will be expected to be a self-starter and to develop collaborations with Service staff and our Federal, State, and University partners. Two announcements will be posted for a SINGLE vacancy: 1) the Pathways Recent Graduate program and 2) the Pathways Student Intern program. The successful applicant may come from either announcement. https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/372775400 https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/372782700 For more information about the position, contact the Fisheries and Ecological Services senior Biometrician, Dr. Suresh Andrew Sethi,
