Dear friends, RE: 10th Anniversary Christmas Stocking Drive Beauty Night Society is an award-winning registered charity that builds hope, trust and self-esteem in vulnerable women through life makeovers that include wellness, fitness, literacy, personal and leadership development. We would like to build a mutually beneficial partnership with your company to celebrate the beauty of all women. On Christmas Eve 2009, thirty volunteers handed out 500 Christmas stockings to women living in poverty residing in shelters, health care facilities, transition homes in Vancouver, Toronto, and Prince George. Hundreds of volunteers throughout the community make this event possible. Vancouver fashion designer Nancy Perreault (www.nancyperreault.com) designed the stocking. With 40 metres of donated fabric, high school textiles classes, fashion design students and Girl Guides sewed 500 Christmas stockings. Beauty Night Society volunteers filled them with donated hair, skin, dental and body care products. This year we will more than double the number of recipients of Christmas stockings. On Christmas Eve 2010, 1,200 stockings created and decorated by children and youth will be handed out by Ms. Claus to women in shelters and transition homes. You can be a part of this worthwhile program by donating new dental, nail, hair, skin and body care products to fill 1200 stockings. What is Beauty Night Society? Beauty Night Society (BNS) is a volunteer-based organization offering wellness programs to marginalized women and youth to help them build self-esteem and self worth. BNS teaches disadvantaged women and youth tools to heal themselves and their communities. This award-winning, registered charity believes everyone is entitled to dignity and respect. Whom does Beauty Night Society serve? The women and youth who participate in BNS programming live in poverty. Most of our participants experienced physical, sexual and/or relational violence before 18 years of age. Our participants include survival sex workers, elderly, transgendered persons and single mothers. Homelessness, mental illness, addiction and violence are some of the barriers that prevent our participants from feeling “of worth” and from integrating into our communities. What do you offer your participants? We offer our participants programs to foster healthy self worth. Our programming includes components of mentorship, personal development and volunteer opportunities.
We offer support, friendship and programs to learn skills such as self-care, nutrition, fitness, goal-setting, stress management, literacy and interview preparation. One of our most popular programs is the Life Makeover night, where volunteer professionals offer women free hair cuts, manicures, massages and makeovers. We also donate clothing and beauty products such as shampoo, skincare and makeup. Aren’t your participants more in need of essentials like health care, housing & jobs? We at Beauty Night recognize that self-esteem is fundamental to gaining control over one’s life. A woman without a feeling of self-worth is less likely to seek out health care, housing or employment. A nice haircut and manicure can give her the confidence to apply for a job, pursue her education or seek stable housing. Beauty Night incorporates hands-on health care into our programs. Some of our volunteers are nursing students who are qualified to check for diabetes and other disease symptoms. We partner with other agencies which offer more extensive health care, housing, job training and shelter. We also teach women how to look after their health through fitness and nutrition. continued

Whenever possible, we offer child minding, mentorship, a creation station and fitness to our outreach programming scheduled at host organizations. Our annual Christmas Stocking Drive and Knit Fit are some other ways we educate the wider community about poverty and other barriers facing women who participate in Beauty Night programs. We offer volunteers an opportunity to actively participate in making a difference in the lives of many, hence community building.
