Physical Therapy Board Standards for Continuing Education Activities Note: revisions made on 1/2015 for clarity only
Category I Continuing Education activities must meet the following standards: 1. Contain specific measurable learning objectives 2. Are developed and presented by qualified individuals and provides documentation of experience, education, and training to competently present content of the activity 3. Are based on referenced scientific evidence, practice-based evidence, case studies, or clearly labeled anecdotal experience; or incorporates current or proposed regulation of practice, including regulatory documents; accepted professional guidelines; policy documents; or best practices in management 4. Contain content and instructional methods based on identified learning objectives 5. Include a procedure for evaluating a participant’s attainment of specified learning objectives and requirements for completion, for example: a) Quiz (verbal or written, graded or ungraded), followed by instructor-led discussion of key points, or b) Learning assessment with a passing score requirement, or c) Instructor approval of participant’s proficiency of skill (e.g. manual therapy, hand s-on technique, etc.) performance based on observation or other assessment method. 6. 8. Include a course evaluation tool to be completed by the participant at the end of the activity that evaluates the instructor and the course. It is recommended that the course evaluation tool include items such as: proficiency of course/instructor in teaching the learning objectives, course evaluation, instructor evaluation, suggestions for course improvements, etc. 9. Provide a certificate of completion, or, other sufficient proof of completion 10. Coursework may be provided online or in person including, but not limited to, various types of electronic methods of learning such as DVD, webinar, audio conference, streaming course etc.
