Body Mounted Robots: Enabling MRI‐guided Pediatric Interventions Kevin Cleary, PhD Bioengineering Initiative, Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation Children’s National Health System, Washington, DC MRI‐guided interventions have been slow to develop because of the difficulties in working in the MRI environment and obtaining patient access in a closed‐bore magnet. However, the desire to minimize radiation dose in pediatrics makes MRI‐guided interventions attractive. In this talk I will describe our efforts to develop MRI‐compatible body mounted robots to streamline the clinical workflow and facilitate MRI‐guided interventions in pediatrics. Brief Biography Kevin Cleary is the Technical Director of the Bioengineering Initiative in the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation at Children’s National Health System, Washington, DC. He directs a team of scientists and engineers working with clinical partners to develop new tools and technology for minimally invasive pediatric innovations. Previously he was at Georgetown University Medical Center where he directed the Computer Aided Interventions and Medical Robotics (CAIMR) Laboratory. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree at Duke University and his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. He was also an NSF sponsored postdoctoral fellow at the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory in Tsukuba, Japan. He has over 20 years of experience in medical robotics and image‐guided interventions.
