EXCITING UPCOMING EVENTS: MARCH 22 - SOUTHERN RAIL CONCERT MAY 8 & 9 - FRIENDS BOOK SALE MAY 16 - FRIENDS BAG OF BOOKS SALE

FOR YOU SHOPPERS: Why I Have Yet to Get an E-book For years people have been raving about the convenience of E-books, and one day I will eventually succumb and buy a Kindle or Nook. But at this time I am still happy to read traditional books, even if I have to drag a heavy bag of reading when I travel. Here’s why: I buy all of my books from the Friends book sales. On Wednesday mornings as we sort books, I often find myself perusing the donations and discover books I had never thought about reading. I buy the book and get lost in a new topic...or if I can’t get into it, do not feel bad if I toss it back into the donation bin, since the cost was a couple of dollars or less. In the last month or so I’ve read Rocket Men, the story of the first men on the moon; In Big Trouble, a Laura Lippman mystery; Bill Murray’s funny Cinderella Story, My Life in Golf; Nat Hentoff’s 1986 memoir Boston Boy; Dennis Lehane’s Mystic River; and a series of essays about pop culture in John Jeremiah Sullivan’s Pulphead. Quite an eclectic mix…most books I would never have tried to find and download. Every week Friends places interesting books on our Ongoing Sale Shelves. As people pass by, they are often drawn to a title…our sales prove the display is popular. So stop by often, or better yet, volunteer to help sort on Wednesday mornings. You’ll never know what you’ll find.

AMAZON will give Friends a donation every time you buy using their site. It won’t cost you a cent. All you need to do is click on AMAZON SMILE on our blog page or the library website and just tell them you support us.

SNOW WHAT DID YOU READ? We’re guessing that many of you had a chance to do more reading than usual over our snowy winter, and we would love to hear about your choices. If you have a book that you enjoyed during “snowmageddon,” let us know so we can recommend it to others. Just visit our blog at: http://friendsofthemedwaylibrary.blogspot.com/ and click on the Contact tab at the top to send us the book title, and a couple of sentences regarding what you liked.

ARE YOU INTERESTED? This summer Friends is considering a few new fun programs for adults: Scrabble and/or Games Night, as well as showing a series of Oscar winning short films or documentaries. Let us know if you’re interested or want to become involved in the planning.
