Effects of Some Plant Growth Regulators on Yield and Quality of Broccoli (Corvet-F1 Var.) in Sulaimani Governorate

ABSTRACT The study was conducted at Bazian experiment field (Bibijak) situated 20 km west of Sulaimani during the growing season 2010-2011. Three types of plant growth regulators IAA (25, 50 and 100 mg.l-1) GA3 (50, 100 and 200 mg.l-1) as well as Kinetin (25, 50 and 100 mg.l-1) were used. Various plant growth regulators had different significant effects on plant height, vegetative growth weight, number of branches and leaf area per plant, diameter and weight of main head and weight of lateral heads, total crop yield, number of days for harvesting, protein percent and vitamin C content. Kinetin concentration (100 mg. l-1 ) gave the highest weight of vegetative growth (5.38 kg), number of branches (11.65), diameter of main head (13.9 cm), level of vitamin C (92.23 mg.100 gm-1). Whereas, GA3 at concentration100 mg.l-1 gave the highest plant height (44.95 cm) and required the minimum number of days for harvesting (153.5 days). IAA at concentrations of 100, 50 and 25 mg.l-1 gave highest weight of the main head (380 gm), leaf area (0.631 m2) and protein percentage (4.09 %) respectively. The highest weight of lateral head (423.8 gm) and total crop yield (738 gm) were recorded with kinetin at 50 and 25 mg.l-1 respectively.
