B.S.P.R.I. Code of Ethics BSPRI members will conduct investigations with impartiality and integrity making conclusions based on scientific study and results. Confidentiality will be abided by and written consent will be obtained prior to an investigation taking place regarding entry, methodology, the publishing of records and media. The client and the BSPRI have the right to withdraw from any investigation at any time and no reason need be given by the client. Where it is felt that a person or client is at risk or vulnerable, the appropriate emergency/care services will be notified if the BSPRI feels that it has a duty of care for the safety and wellbeing of such individuals. No investigation will be conducted where children and other vulnerable persons are involved who may be adversely affected by the process of investigation. No child (person under 18) or vulnerable person or person suspected of suffering from a mental illness or impairment will be interviewed during the course of an investigation. Members will treat all persons with the utmost respect and dignity at all times. The BSPRI will not conduct investigation or purport to provide findings outside of their level of training, qualifications or expertise. ‘No code of ethical or professional conduct can ever specify all the many circumstances and considerations with which an individual must be concerned in order to maintain proper ethical and professional conduct. Nor should it have to do so, for the general considerations that should bind the ethical scientist are the same as those applicable to anyone in any field. In essence, they come down to truthfulness, carefulness, and kindness. Serious failings on any of these accounts can ultimately serve to undermine both progress and public confidence’. Parapsychological Association BSPRI members have a varied background knowledge, experience, training and interest in paranormal investigation and adopt the principles of ASSAP, of which some of the group are members.
