BTEC Sport Aims: Candidates are expected to develop a wide range of skills related to the Sport Industry. Course Title: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate The Pearson BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport is intended to be an Applied General qualification for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the sport sector. It is the equivalent to one GCE A Level Students will study three mandatory content areas: 1. Anatomy and Physiology 2. Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being 3. Professional Development in the Sports Industry. Students will also choose one optional unit from a range which has been designed to support choices in progression to sport courses in higher education, and to link with relevant occupational areas. Qualities expected of students: Students must be genuinely interested in sport and appreciation of the importance of Sport in the modern world. We would expect the pupils to be active within either school sport or local sporting clubs. An enthusiasm to read/investigate widely is essential, particularly newspapers, current affairs programmes and information from the Internet. Students will need to have a GCSE of C or above in both English and Science. GCSE PE(Grade C or higher) or BTEC level 2 Sport (merit or higher) will be an advantage, but is not mandatory. Assessment & Structure: Mandatory units There are 3 mandatory units that learners must complete, 2 external (examination) and 1 internal (coursework). Optional units Learners must complete 1 optional unit (coursework).
