$ Most of us have to think twice before buying a diamond encrusted toilet. Keeping tabs on how much we spend is just smart. When it comes to managing an AdWords campaigns, things are no different. With smarter budgeting, your clients can reach as many customers as possible, without flushing money away.

Getting started Set a budget With AdWords, you can set a flexible daily budget and change it any time you want. So if something isn’t working, you can try a fresh approach.

Make bids Higher bids mean a higher spend, but are more likely to generate traffic. Lower bids can work but likely lead to fewer clicks and conversions.

How much should I budget? Let’s break it down… Daily budget If your cost-per-click is $0.10 on average, and your goal is 100 clicks per day, your budget would be $10 per day.

$0.10 x 100 = $10 per day (Cost-per-click x Clicks per day = Daily budget)

Monthly budget To work out your monthly AdWords budget, multiply your daily budget by 30.4 – the average number of days in a month.

Shared budgets This allows you to split your budget across multiple campaigns.

1. Sign in at http://adwords.google.com 2. Click Campaigns in the page menu. 3. Click the button and select the campaign type you’d like to create.

Don't set and forget. Check your account regularly to look for campaigns that are limited by budget or have leftover dollars.

4. (Optional) Set a campaign goal and enter the URL of your business’s website. 5. On the Select campaign settings page, scroll to the Daily budget section and enter an individual daily budget or use a shared budget. 6. Finish choosing your other campaign settings and click Save and continue.

Need a change? Choose a new budget You can change your daily budget as much or as little as you like. Here's how: 1. In the Campaigns page, click the pencil icon the daily budget you’d like to edit. 2. Enter the new budget. 3. Click Save.
