DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, ALIVE! – What is Sin?
Saint Augustine described sin as “a word, an act, or a desire contrary to the eternal Law.” We can distinguish sins according to their variety or gravity. The two most common categories of sin are mortal sins and venial sins. Mortal sin destroys charity, deprives us of sanctifying grace, and can be forgiven in the Sacrament of Reconciliation (more on this next week). Sin is present in all of our lives. Fortunately, God is infinite mercy. When is the last time you undertook a thorough examination of conscience? archstl.org/dynamic

“I drink flavored water so I’m not really drinking an unhealthy sugary drink” Or are you….. The term “sugar-sweetened beverages” is most often associated with traditional carbonated drinks. However, this category of beverages has expanded substantially and now includes, among others, beverages known as flavored, enhanced, or vitamin water. What are flavored waters? Flavored waters are sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) that contain any variety of added ingredients, including fruit and other flavorings, herbs, vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, sodium, protein, fiber, and caffeine. While marketed mostly for enhancing health and well-being, they are also marketed as a sports drink. Some versions contain no calories and would not be taxed. How much sugar is in these beverages? Some of the more popular brands have between 6-8 teaspoons (90-120 calories) per 20-ounce bottle. So what should I drink? Our bodies need water. Water makes up 60% of body weight. Our lives depend on it. Because the body has no water storage system, water lost during the day must be replaced to maintain healthy functioning. Although water needs vary depending on exercise, climate, and other factors, most adults need 11–16 cups of total water per day. Not getting enough fluid can lead to dehydration, causing headache, fatigue, blood pressure changes, and irregular heartbeat. “And water you shall drink by measure, the sixth part of a him; from day to day you shall drink. Ezekiel 4:11 “ Water is mentioned 722 times in scripture telling us that it is of great significance both spiritually and physically. Water plays a large part in our spiritual lives: baptism, holy water, scripturally etc. I am unable to locate any reference to Coke or Gatorade in the scriptures nor did I read that the apostles grabbed a 5 Hour Energy drink when they were having a tough day. They washed away the dust of the day from their feet partook of some water or wine and prayed!! We can do the same to recharge and purify ourselves this Lent. We can pray and receive the sacrament of penance. The North County Catholic Senior Ministry is accepting applications for volunteers to help with: Drivers: You would be driving seniors or the disabled to and from doctors’ offices or stores. Job Squad: This volunteer helps to handle small household repairs for those who are no longer able to these jobs. This can include gutter cleaning, painting, light bulb replacement etc... All volunteers must be compliant with the Protecting God’s Children and VIRTUS. Call Michelle Ritter RN at 837-3165

PRO-LIFE 40 DAYS FOR LIFE, Spring 2015 We are part of the Body of Christ. When I go to the sidewalk for the 40 Days for Life Campaign, I am a pray-er. I pray for the women going into the Planned Parenthood clinic, knowing that regardless of their choice, they need our prayers for conversion. Others in the Body of Christ are sidewalk counselors. They are trained to meet the women coming into the Planned Parenthood, to redirect them to genuine, Christian help. A third part of the Body of Christ is the Thrive Mobile Medical Unit. Here is where free help begins: free pregnancy tests, free ultrasounds, and free counseling for Life. Expectant women can also receive free referrals for whatever pregnancy support they need. Everyone's part in the Body of Christ is necessary and indispensable. We bring prayerful witness -- never judgment! -- to show the love of Christ to the women coming to the Planned Parenthood, the employees, and the passersby. Come join us in this peaceful, prayerful witness. Come pray with us! Our day at the 40 Days for Life Campaign this spring is THURSDAY, MARCH 19. Look for our display table on March 1, and sign up to pray for an hour on the weekends of March 7 / 8 or March 14 / 15. For more information, please contact Jack Freebersyser at 314-731-5160.

ADORATION CHAPEL Many visitors to our Eucharistic Chapel shared their thoughts and feelings about the time they spend with the Hidden Jesus.
“First off, I thank the Lord for the strength and good health he has given me to be able to spend an hour with Him each week. I usually review the day or past days of what I have done or should have done. I also pray for my family and friends and relatives, and the sick and dying of the parish. I also read some of the religious articles in the back.”
New families and individuals, please register at the rectory at your earliest opportunity. Monday—Friday, 8 am to 4 pm or visit our website for a registration form.
