NILES TOWNSHIP HIGH SCHOOLS BUS ROUTE INFORMATION Daily Bus Service The information contained in this booklet describes the Niles Township High Schools, District 219 student transportation guidelines. Please read this information carefully. Students living outside the one and one-half mile distance from the school are provided with free bus service. Students who live less than one and one-half miles from the school as measured by the shortest automobile route, have an option to pay an annual fee to ride the school bus. The bus fee for the 2017 – 2018 school year is: $300.00 for the first child and $225.00 for each additional child in the same family. Student I.D. cards serve as your student’s bus pass. A bus icon and route assignment on the student I.D. card will indicate that they are eligible to ride the bus. For your child’s safety, I.D. cards are checked daily to ride the bus. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL A STUDENT BE ALLOWED TO RIDE THE BUS IF THEY DO NOT HAVE THEIR STUDENT I.D. CARD. Students may obtain a temporary I.D. in the bookstore for a $1.00 charge or pay $5.00 to replace a lost I.D. card. Student riders are expected to exhibit good behavior at all times on school buses and at boarding points. Regular school disciplinary guidelines apply to school bus riders. Students will be removed and or not allowed to ride the bus if school rules are not followed. Smoking is NOT allowed on buses at any time. Students will be suspended from riding the bus if they are caught smoking. If a student causes damage to a bus, the student and their parents will be responsible to cover the cost of the damage and could be referred to the court system for further action. AM PICK-UP ROUTES: Bus routes are divided as outlined in this booklet. The bus company makes every effort to be prompt. Students should be at their corner 5 minutes before arrival times. If the bus is late a call should be made to the bus company (First Student 630-559-6998) and a report should be made to the Assistant Principal for Operations at your child’s high school. PM RETURN ROUTES: Buses begin loading after school. The P.M. routes are identified with the same letter designation as the morning route. ACTIVITY BUS SERVICE: Students participating in extracurricular activities and who are registered to ride the bus are eligible to use the “Activity Bus”. There are two Activity runs, one leaving the school at 5pm and one leaving at 6:10pm. The activity bus runs a consolidated bus route as we do not provide door to door service. Drop off can be as much as four to six blocks from the student’s home. The drop off locations are not assigned on the Activity Routes. Upon entering the bus your student(s) should let the bus driver know where along the route they would like to exit the bus.
