California Statewide Fire Summary Friday, December 15, 2017 Over 8,400 firefighters remain on the line, with 8,300 of those firefighters battling the Thomas Fire in Southern California, which is now the 4 th largest fire in State history and 8th most destructive. As of today, these fires have burned nearly 280,000 acres and destroyed over 1,200 structures. Conditions across the state are tinder dry due to above average temperatures and low humidity. Red flag warnings are in effect for parts of northern California and in Southern California through tomorrow and possibly into the weekend. In Los Angeles and Ventura Counties strong northeast winds are expected through this evening with gusts of 40-50 mph in the mountains and between 35-45 mph across the coastal and valley areas. Warm and dry conditions continue across the state, with no chance of precipitation in the current forecast.
