The use of probabilistic models in signal and array processing, named, Statistical Signal and Array Processing has been the focus of tremendous theoretical advances and applications over the last three decades. Practical applications of statistical signal and array processing are found in many digital signal processing and communication systems for wireless communication, radar, sonar and biomedicine, to mention a few. The purpose of this special issue is to report on recent progress performed and emerging trends in the area of statistical signal and array processing and to celebrate the 70th birthday of Professor Johann Böhme who has been a pioneer of many statistical signal and array processing methods to solving real-life problems. High-quality papers, including review articles are sought, in which statistical signal and array processing theory and methods interleave with real-world problems.
