The maximum number of selected works will be a total of six, representing each of the participating countries and will remain on display during the three days of the festival. The deadline for submitting entries closes on November 12. Information concerning possible changes will be available on the festival’s website. www.inmediterraneum.com FUNDAMENTALS Theme The works must be approached from the perspective that each artists chooses, according to the following theme: • Out of Place We live in a confusing time, in which many common places are crumbling in the social, the emotional, the artistic or in their own identity. Claiming that something is out of place, we assume that there is a right place for everything,
every feeling and every act , but who sets the lines and how? This topic can be approached from many different perspectives and none is excluded. We invite you to reflect on what it means to feel out of place, to feel that we are not where we want, to feel that our reality is not ours, to feel dislocated, to feel foreign in a strange land, to be pathologised for living countercurrently or yearning for a time when we wanted to live but it became alien to us. But “Out of Place” may also refer to what is out of the usual, out of the frame set by the establishment, a hybrid that does not clearly belong to a universal idiom. Pushing everything with which we work with to the limit that lies between what is inside and outside our control, to an almost non-place, where, paradoxically, spaces of absolute freedom of action and reflection are generated. Such a non-place acts as a seismic wave that moves everything off its axis and redefines categories, shaking the interlocutor and generating not just fear of the unknown, but also a desire to overcome the contemporarily called “comfort zone”.
