In Medi Terraneum 2013

International Simultaneous Video Art Festival November 28, 29 & 30 Open Call This Open Call for artworks is part of the fourth annual In Medi Terraneum International Simultaneous Video Art Festival, which will take place in Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Spain, Italy and Greece on November 28, 29 & 30, 2013. The maximum number of selected works will be a total of six, representing each of the participating countries and will remain on display during the three days of the festival. The jury may award up to two works among all the received. On the closing day of the festival, a VJ and DJ session will be held in the city of Madrid. The session will combine fragments of these works to form a new hybrid part. This session will be broadcasted live via streaming can be wathed from the local venues of the festival. The deadline for submitting entries closes on November 12. Information concerning possible changes will be available on the festival’s website. www.inmediterraneum.com FUNDAMENTALS Theme The works must be approached from the perspective that each artists chooses, according to the following theme: • Out of Place We live in a confusing time, in which many common places are crumbling in the social, the emotional, the artistic or in their own identity. Claiming that something is out of place, we assume that there is a right place for everything,

every feeling and every act , but who sets the lines and how? This topic can be approached from many different perspectives and none is excluded. We invite you to reflect on what it means to feel out of place, to feel that we are not where we want, to feel that our reality is not ours, to feel dislocated, to feel foreign in a strange land, to be pathologised for living countercurrently or yearning for a time when we wanted to live but it became alien to us. But “Out of Place” may also refer to what is out of the usual, out of the frame set by the establishment, a hybrid that does not clearly belong to a universal idiom. Pushing everything with which we work with to the limit that lies between what is inside and outside our control, to an almost non-place, where, paradoxically, spaces of absolute freedom of action and reflection are generated. Such a non-place acts as a seismic wave that moves everything off its axis and redefines categories, shaking the interlocutor and generating not just fear of the unknown, but also a desire to overcome the contemporarily called “comfort zone”. Works & Participants

• Participants must be nationals of any of the host countries (Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, Spain, Italy, Greece) or residents thereof, regardless of age.

• Participants may attend individually or collectively.

• Participants may enter a maximum of two works regardless of their production date.

• Each work submitted must have be made in video form.

• It is imperative that the subject follows the previously described theme.

• The work can use any of the languages of the participating countries (Spanish, Italian, Greek) or otherwise include English subtitles.

Submitting Works

• Regardless of they format in which they were captured, all works must be submitted via the Internet.

• Each work will be uploaded on video file in high quality DVD PAL (MPEG-2 not exceeding 100 Mb) to an online server (we recommend www.wetransfer.com but accept other servers)

• Once the file is uploaded, the server will generate a download link to be attached to the mail address through which you perform the registration.

• If the artist or group of artists have a video channel on which to watch the works submitted for the contest, they may replace the above procedure and attach the link of the work on that channel instead of the download link to a server.

• After the selected works are chosen, artists should send the original files in MPGE2 PAL format, 25 fps, 1500 kbps.

It will bepublicised on the website of the festival : www.inmediterraneum.com The selection criteria conform to the following:

• Adaptation of the videos submitted to the theme. • Discursive coherence of the work. • Originality and technical quality.

The jury may also award a maximum of two entries from all entries received , which may be shown alongside the finalists of each country, certifying their quality and artistic value. These references are decided in the event that after the selection by the jury is finalised, there are still works that , in the jury’s opinion, deserved to be distinguished. The decision is final. The decision will be posted on the festival’s website, www.inmediterraneum.com Rights All the finalists agree to assign the rights to display their works during the duration of the festival, as well as the cession of themselves and their imagery for broadcast , promotion and festival archive.
