Sphurti 2016! One of the guiding principles of DIT University is to promote holistic development of students. In order to emphasize the significance of physical health and sports, the University organized its annual Inter-college sports festival “Sphurti’16” from March 9 to March 12, 2016. The festival witnessed significant participation by students from different institutes of North India. The festival started on March 9,’16 with Director General of Police, Uttarakhand Shri R.S Meena (I.P.S) declaring the event open before an impressive gathering of University dignitaries including the Vice chancellor, other faculty members and students. FOUNDER’S DAY CELEBRATIONS! On March 12, 2016 DIT University celebrated 20 years of its long laid foundation by organising a cultural evening. The celebration was graced by Dr. A. Senthil Kumar, chief guest of the evening, who is presently working as Director and Scientist at the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun. T h e celebration commenced by lighting of the lamp and the Saraswati Vandana to seek the blessings of the Almighty. Further, the portrait of the Founding Chairman, Lt. Shree Naveen Agarwal, was garlanded. The celebration was followed by inspiring words of respected Vice Chancellor, Dr. K.K. Raina, and Chief Guest, Dr. A. Senthil Kumar. ‣ Hp Inc. offered a package of over 7 LPA to the 10 shortlisted candidates of DIT UNIVERSITY. ‣ Think & Learn Pvt. Ltd visited DIT University on 4th March, 2016 for campus placement drive and hired 30 students of B.Tech. ‣ DITMOTORACING, DIT UNIVERSITY’S official FSAE team carried out a recruitment drive for students of mechanical, electrical and electronics.

IMPROMPTU’16 HELD! The Editorial Board of DIT University held its annual competition – Impromptu’16 on March 31. This annual event involves a writing competition on varied and unique topics of everyday life requiring extraordinary English and Hindi writing and sketching skills. The competition qualifies students for subsequent rounds of selection for becoming a member of the prestigious board of the University that has been entrusted with the responsibility of publication of newsletters and annual magazine. Students from varying backgrounds penned down their innovative ideas and thoughts on abstract topics using wit & knowledge . 1

Editorial Board is the one of the most prestigious student bodies of the University that has been delegated with the privilege of being considered as a group of motivated skilful individuals who work in a team to bring out quality publications and periodicals. The result of the competition shall be announced by the board shortly.

14-15 March, 2016 for B.Pharm and M. Pharm students. This seminar not just created awareness but also helped the students in understanding the importance of CGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice) in pharmaceutical industries to produce quality medicines. Dr. Mahesh also emphasized on various ethics and strategies for effective marketing of the pharmaceutical products.

Women’s Day Celebrated The International Women's Day was celebrated on March 8, 2016 at DIT University. The celebration was enhanced with the beginning of "Women Empowerment Club". The guest of honour Ms. Mehak Sharma, team co-ordinator of MAD (Make a Difference), Dehradun, inspired the students with her words about womenempowerment.

Mechaholics 2016 held The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) - DIT Chapter conducted Mechaholics’16 on 18-19 March, 2016. During the three days, numerous events like Robowars, Water-Rocket and Plug n Play were conducted. In Robowars, participants had to design and construct a wired or wireless controlled robot capable of fighting a battle. Water-Rocket was an event where participants were asked to design a single stage water rocket that uses pressurized air and water to complete a defined task. The closing event was Plug n Play which consisted of connecting water source to the drain adhering to the time limit without any leakage. The event saw an overwhelming success as the students found their involvement in the event both valuable and rewarding.

Prof. Shishir Kumar (Hon Director Academic Administration) and Pro Vice Chancellor graced the BLOOD occasion with their DONATION CAMP presence. The dignitaries A Blood Donation Camp congratulated the club was organised by the Red members for taking the Ribbon Club- DIT Chapter initiative and wished them in collaboration with IMA Blood Bank and Shri success. Mahant Indiresh Hospital in the university premises on March 12-14, 2016. Students volunteered in a large number and donated blood. The hospital authorities examined the health conditions of the donors to ensure their fitness for donating blood. After the donation, each volunteer was given refreshments and certificate. The mass participation of the students showed the will of students to serve the humanity.

Science Day Celebrations

PADMA SHREE GEETA CHANDRAN PERFORMS AT DIT

On February 28, 2016 Physics Department of DIT University celebrated National Science Day in order to commemorate the invention of The Raman Effect in India by Sir Chandrasekhara Ve n k a t a R a m a n . T h e celebration was followed by Debate and Quiz competition. The topic for the debate was Science Education in India- Is it becoming a cliché? The students appeared in a large number and participated in both the competitions.

SPIC MACAY- DIT Chapter hosted a Bharatanatyam performance by Padma Shri Mrs. Geeta Chandran Ji, a doyenne of dance. The event conducted on March 29, 2016 took the spectators into an enhanced state of euphoria. Geetaji started the performance with an eye catching piece titled “Puspanjali”, which was followed by a performance

Seminar on Pharmacy Practices A two-day seminar on Good Manufacturing Practice in Pharma Industry and Pharma Marketing: Art, Science and Profession was organized by the faculty of Pharmacy of DIT university. This seminar was conducted by Dr. Mahesh D. Burandae, Hon. Director IPER (Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research), Pune on

concluded with another solo, paying tribute to Mirabai. In between her performance she also explained the terms associated with Bharatanatyam and addressed the audience about the origin of this Classical Dance Form. The highlight of the performance was the episode of ‘Krishna Leela’ in which Geetaji through her ‘bhavas’ and ‘mudras’ recaptured the mischievous activities of Lord Krishna as a child. The facial expressions, mudras, sculptor’s poses and music proscribed the audience from taking their eyes off the stage.

Tata Crucible Quiz

SPE Tech-Fest

The prolific quiz master Pick Brain, in association with DIT University, organised the TATA Crucible Quiz Zonal Final. The quiz was held at DIT University on March 13, 2016. Competing with 88 teams from various colleges of Uttarakhand in the preliminary written test, only 6 teams made to the final round. The participants were tested over a wide variety of general k n o w l e d g e questions. The team from UPES, Dehradun emerged the winners while the teams from IIT, Roorkee and DIT University secured the first and second runner-up positions respectively.

Society of Petroleum Engineers, DIT Chapter organized a three day SPE Tech-Fest from March 18-20, 2016. The inauguration ceremony was marked by the presence and inspirational words of Hon. Chief Guest Mr Anil Sachan, who is currently working as Executive Director & Head of Institute of Drilling Technology at ONGC. The event was graced by Vice C h a n c e l l o r, Pr o V i c e Chancellor, Director Academic Administration, and other faculty members of the department. Next day of the tech-fest commenced by the launching of SPE DIT website by Dr. A. K. Mishra, General Manager of ONGC Academy.

Events like The Wazir, Battle of Brains, Oil Business (treasure hunt), Innova (Smart City Challenge) and Pictures Don’t Lie tested and brushed up the talents of the participants. On the second day of the tech-fest, Bhagavat Singh Negi, Energy, Oil & Gas Industry expert, had an interactive session with the students. The fest marked its closure on the third day with a guest lecture by Mr Ratan Singh, DGM, ONGC Dehradun, on Drilling Fluids.

Speaking at the occasion, Vice Chancellor Dr K.K Raina said that he was satisfied with the smooth conduct of the event and announced the dates for the next edition of Sphurti festival which is to be held at DITU from March 6, 2017 to March 9, 2017.

Closure of Sphurti 2016 was declared and the winners were felicitated with certificates, medals and trophies. Also, momentoes were presented to the coaches of the teams and to the referees. Further, respected Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. S. Swaminathan, addressed the crowd and congratulated the winners and participants of Sphurti 2016 for making it a huge success.

Group Meditation and CSR On the occasion of 9thMaha Samadhi of Grand Master ChoaKok Sui, Founder of Advance Pranic Healing and Modern ArhaticYoga, the Counselling Cell of DIT University organized a Group Meditation on March 19, 2016. Under the supervision of Ms. Monica Nakra (Students’ Counsellor), the students meditated and focused on serenity, love, kindness and healing the mother earth. In the spirit of the event, our students joined hands with the Food for the Hungry Foundation and served food among 150 people at various spots in the city including Sai Temple, Astley Hall, Parade Ground and Bindal Pool.

This was followed by cultural performances which rejuvenated the crowd and proved that the students of DIT University are not only limited to their textbooks, rather they excel in other fields of performing arts as well. The excellence of students of the university in all the fields, from technical to cultural, is a visible proof that the vision of “Imagine, Aspire, Achieve”, idealised by the founding chairman, is being fulfilled at a great pace.
