Adding Assignments for Grading
Adding Calendar Events
Create an Assignment for everything that you grade a student on during the semester, this may include quizzes, written assignments, participation, attendance, a final, a midterm, etc.
Create a Calendar event for anything related to the course that is not graded. This may include chapter readings, paper drafts, clinical dates and more.
Steps: 1. Select Assignments from the course menu on the left. 2. Click on Add Assignment or click the green plus symbol.
3. Type in the Assignment name, select a Due Date (if applicable), and add points. 4. Select Update.
Steps: 1. Select Calendar from the global navigation menu. 2. Click on the date in the calendar you want your event to appear. 3. In the pop-up window type in the Event name and choose the correct course calendar from the calendar drop-down menu. Note: Calendar events will be added to your course syllabus.
Adding Announcements Notes: Draft state in Canvas defaults to NOT PUBLISHED, so in order for students to see the assignment click on the cloud icon so it changes to green
Create an announcement to communicate important course information, including class cancellations and other notices.

Steps: 1. Select Announcements from the course navigation on the left. 2. Click New Announcement on the right.
Adding Assignment Details To add content to the assignment. Click on the assignment name from the list and select Edit Assignment on the right to add details or attach files.
From here you can set the submission type (online or on paper), the assignment availability date and more.
3. Enter the Announcement Topic Title and begin typing the body of the announcement in the edit window. 4. To finish, click Save.

Adding YouTube Media or External Links to Modules
Create a module to provide course content to your students outside of class. Modules can be used to link to PowerPoint presentations, external web links, text files, videos and more. Modules can be arranged by week, topic or chapter/unit.
You may want to share a variety of web sites or YouTube videos with students including professional resources, tutorials and more.
Steps: 1. Select Modules from the course menu on the left. 2. Click Create a Module on the top-right.
Steps: 1. Find the Module where you want to share the video or link, under Modules from the course menu on the left. 2. Click Add item to module next to the green plus symbol at the bottom of the module. 3. From the add item drop-down menu select External URL.
3. In the dialog box, give your new module a title, set any locking or sequence preferences.
4. Enter the resource URL address in the box. Note: for YouTube you can find this link by selecting Share from under the video. 5. Click Add Item. Adding Files to Modules
