DMR Record Falls A week after capturing the 4x800m Relay record, the distance squad swapped out for a sprinter's leg and took aim at the Distance Medley Relay standard. Senior Kyle Oakes (Chesapeake, VA) led off with a strong 3:09.6 leg (1200m) to put the record in play and fellow senior Josh Simmons (Gainesville, VA) carried the next two laps in 51.6 seconds to stay on pace. The only non-senior in the quartet, Matt Winkler (Palmyra, VA) was responsible for the 800m leg. He went out quickly and held on for a 1:59.4 split. As with the 4x800m the previous week, senior David Woodson (Hayes, VA) had the responsibility of bringing the baton across the finish line. He quickly settled in to his 33 second-per-lap rhythm and with a 4:23.9 leg, stopped the clock at 10:24.70 -- nearly 4 seconds under the old record. The rest of the Friday evening schedule produced 6 PRs and a CNU All-Time Top Ten debut for the men's team. Cameron Chaplin (Midlothian, VA) and Jonathan Wade (Rocky Mount, VA) each added length to their 35lb Weight Throw bests. Chaplin gained close to a foot (12.76m/41-10.5) and the rookie Wade was not far behind at 11.36m/37-3.25. Teammate Chris Banks (Newport News, VA) won the event at very good earlyseason mark of 15.10m/49-6.5. Michael Kitchens (Leesburg, VA) added a PR in the Long Jump (5.57m/183.25) behind fellow freshman Kwarteng Asare's (Fairfax, VA) team leading 6.30m/20-8 effort. In the preliminary heats of the 60m Dash, Leroy Harper, Jr. (Chesapeake, VA) led the way for the Captains, qualifying for finals in 7.07 seconds. Fellow seniors Greg Jones (Richmond, VA) and Isaac Bell (Yorktown, VA) also moved on and each set a new PR with Jones at 7.18 and Bell at 7.27 seconds. Neither improved in the finals on Saturday (Jones ran immediately following his 400m race), but Harper shaved a couple hundredths to place second over-all (7.05). Sophomore Chris Ables-Sinclair (Sterling, VA) dropped more than a third of a second from his 60m Hurdle PR to qualify for finals (9.28) and then matched that time on Saturday. Freshman Corey Lofton (Vienna, VA) made an impressive debut in the 5,000m. After a very steady pace through the first three kilometers, he shifted gears and dropped a couple seconds per lap over the final 2k. The end result was a run-away win and the #9 spot on the CNU All-Time List at 15:40.77. Saturday's schedule started with the field events and the previous evening's momentum carried forward. Isaac Bell started the day by adding a few more inches to his National Provo mark in the Triple Jump (14.23m/468.25). Kitchens earned his second PR of the weekend by bouncing out to 12.23m/40-1.5. Across the track, Chris Banks launched a PR in the Shot Put (14.20m/46-7.25) to earn his second victory of the meet. Wade (1.28m/37-0.25) and Jesse Hutcheson (Christiansburg, VA) (8.43m/27-8) also extended their personal bests in the event. Jared Rader (Culpeper, VA) showed his return to form is not far away with some huge early jumps in the Pole Vault before settling for a 4.10m/13-5.25 final clearance. On the track, Kyle Oakes came back from a 4:29.57 Mile to post a 3 second indoor best in the 800m. His 1:58.30 ranks him 5th in CNU history. Matt Winkler clocked a 2:01.00 -- just shy of his indoor PR -- doubling back from a strong 1:24.71 run in the 600m. Joshua Simmons slipped under his PR in that off-distance race (1:27.17). David Woodson completed his work on Saturday with another metronome-like run in the 3,000m. His 8:38.51 fell just two second shy of his own School Record. Women's Story

Distance Corps Puts Together Another Strong Meet The long races on the weekend went very well for the Captains as three PRs fell and several others were in range. In the 3,000m, Brooke Rowe (Yorktown, VA) came within half a second of her best ever time at 11:11.10. Elizabeth Bissell (Wyckoff, NJ) virtually matched that time in the second heat (11:11.91). Megan Roberts was a few steps behind Rowe and cut 3 seconds from her previous PR. Her 11:14.76 improves her hold on the #10 All-Time position in CNU history. Running at the shorter end of their usual distances, Amy Wampler (Spotsylvania, VA) and Edie Nault (Poquoson, VA) legged out solid times in the Mile. Wampler finished a few second shy of her indoor best at 5:29.26. Nault dropped her PR nearly 3 seconds to 5:37.94. Dira Hansen (Culpeper, VA) and Michelle Stauffer (Fort Valley, VA) raced at the long end of their spectrum in the 800m. Hansen's 2:25.76 just missed her PR while Stauffer's 2:35.31 was a 2 second improvement over her lifetime best. In the "speed and power" events, Rachael Hawks (Mechanicsville, VA) cleared a modest-for-her 3.15m/10-4 on tender shins. Christin Didlake (Richmond, VA) cleared a season-best 1.53m/5-0.25 and had a big jump at a would-be PR 1.58m/5-2.25 but could not quite finish it. Rookie thrower Jill Raines (Jeffersonton, VA) earned two PRs on the weekend with a 7.96m/26-1.5 toss in the 20lb Weight Throw and a 9.44m/30-11.75 throw in the Shot Put. Sheronda Rose (Madison Heights, VA) cut over 0.3 seconds from her PR in the 60m to 8.74. The Captains are home again this week on Saturday for the Vince Brown Invitational. Top
