Landcare Carnamah – Powerhouse Park Blue skies, excellent coffee and good vibes all round set the scene for celebrating the Powerhouse Park official opening on Sunday 10th April on Yarra Street. As part of the Carnamah Community strategic plan for ‘town beautification’, the Shire and Carnamah Landcare group joined forces to create a tranquil bush space that highlights the site of the former Electric Light and Power Station established by H. Parkin & Son in the 1920s. The Parkins were a busy mob as they were also the local blacksmiths and motor mechanics of the town. Those in attendance of the official opening on Sunday enjoyed a lovely morning tea and delightful natter amongst recently planted local flora and well entrenched artefacts relating to old powerhouse days. Situated at the northern entry to the town, it’s a welcoming place for locals and travelers alike. Congratulations to the passionate Carnamah Landcare crew: Paulina & Peter Wittwer, Catie Davenport and others, who have given a new lease of life to an old hardworking site. Many thanks to the Shire of Carnamah for their encouragement and support of the Powerhouse Park concept, and thanks to neighbor Colin, who keeps an eye on its wellbeing.
