From Matthew 5:13–16a

(The Message)

You call us to be disciples of your son, Jesus, and good stewards of your many gifts.

Inspire “Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness?… Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world.

Open our minds and hearts to a greater awareness and deeper appreciation of our countless blessings. Transform us through the power of your Spirit to nurture a stewardship way of life for all our days. Help us to be the salt that brings out the God-flavours of this earth

Ask “God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives.”

to encourage vitality and joy and never lose our saltiness and our purpose. Help us to be a light with beams of community, compassion, and hope for a better and more just world. We pray this in the name of Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. AMEN.

Thank Thank you for all the ways you are salt and light in this world.
