REFLECTION ..

HOLY WEEK REFLECTION

EASTER TRIDUUM SCHEDULE March 24, Holy Thursday No confession 7:00 pm = Bilingual Holy Mass of the Lord’s Last Supper

March 25, Friday 8:15 am = NO MASS, but only Morning Prayer 9:00 AM = English Stations of the Cross 3:00 pm = English Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion 6:00 pm = English Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion (Church) 5:30 pm = Spanish Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion (outside) 6:30 pm = Spanish LIVE Station of the Lord’s Passion

PALM SUNDAY REFLECTION “...His coming is a revelation, a radical, total revelation of God's holiness. ‘Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory…’. Precisely this Week, which humanly speaking is filled to the brim with suffering, humiliation, despoliation; in a word, with the kenosis of God, this Week contains the revelation of God's holiness, the culmination of world history. ‘Holy, Holy, Holy.... Hosanna in the highest’....To embrace the Cross on this day, to pass it from hand to hand, is a very eloquent gesture. It is like saying: Lord, we do not want to stay with You only at the time of the ‘Hosannas’, but with Your help we want to accompany You on the way of the Cross as did Mary, Your mother and ours, and the Apostle John. Yes, O Lord, because ‘You have the words of eternal life’ (Jn 6:68), and we have believed that precisely Your Cross is the Word of life, of eternal life!” LENTEN ACTION: A diet of amoral and immoral programs can and will corrupt your values. Do you control the media you watch and listen to?

Holy Week observances began in Jerusalem in the earliest days of the Church, when devout people traveled to Jerusalem at Passover to reenact the events of the week leading up to the Resurrection. The purpose of Holy Week is to reenact, relive, and participate in the passion of Jesus Christ. • Palm Sunday (or Passion Sunday), the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem. • Holy Thursday (or Maundy Thursday), the institution of Holy Communion and the betrayal by Judas. • Good Friday, the arrest, trial, Crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus Christ. • Holy Saturday, the Sabbath on which Jesus rested in the grave. * Easter Sunday, The Resurrection of he Lord Jesus

During the Triduum, from Holy Thursday evening through Easter, fast from unnecessary electronic communication and television to retain an essence of sacredness and reflection of Holy Week!

YEAR OF MERCY REFLECTION "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful," Luke 6:36. "Merciful Like the Father" is the motto our Pope Francis chose for the Jubilee Year. "The Jubilee will be a time of special graces from God.” The Pope has attached indulgences to making a pilgrimage to the Major Basilica of Rome and other churches throughout the world, in order to walk through the designated Jubilee Year Holy Doors (our designated church is St. Catherine of Alexandria, Temecula, Ca). A Jubilee is a time of solidarity, hope, justice, and commitment to serve God with joy, and in peace with our brothers and sisters. A Jubilee Year is above all the year of Christ, who brings life and grace to humanity. “This is the time of mercy, it is the favorable time to heal wounds, a time not to be weary of meeting all those who are waiting to see and to touch with their hands the signs of the closeness of God, a time to offer everyone the way of forgiveness and reconciliation." Pope Francis asked for all to steep themselves in the Word of God through reading and meditating on the Sacred Scriptures. "In order to be capable of Mercy," the Pope wrote, "we must first of all dispose ourselves to listen to the Word of God (by) rediscovering the value of silence, in order to meditate on the Word that comes to us.” He also said, “It is my burning desire that, during this Jubilee, the Christian people may reflect on the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, and perform them readily.” CORPORAL WORKS 1. Feed the hungry. 2. Give drink to the thirsty. 3. Clothe the naked. 4. Shelter the homeless. 5. Comfort the sick. 6. Visit the prisoners. 7. Bury the dead. SPIRITUAL WORKS 1. Teach the ignorant. 2. Pray for the living and the dead. 3. Correct the sinners. 4. Counsel those in doubt. 5. Console the sorrowful. 6. Bear wrongs patiently. 7. Forgive wrongs willingly.
