REFLECTION
John 10:11
The image of the shepherd and His sheep is one of the most enduring ones within our Christian faith. Jesus uses this reference consistently throughout His teachings. The Lord, however, does more than tell us He is a shepherd. Jesus calls us to serve as shepherds for those around us, just as He shepherds us. It is this stewardship of our family, friends, co-workers, and others which allows us to show the love we are expected to demonstrate. An anonymous quote captures what our relationship to the Lord ===== should be perfectly: “When you cannot sleep, do not count sheep; talk to the Shepherd.”
Leviticus 20:7
SAINT’S LIFE CORNER
Romans 7:12
Saint Bridget. The daughter of Dubhthach, a pagan chieftain of Leinster, and Brocca, a Christian Pict who had been baptized by Saint Patrick who inspired her. Bridget grew to be a beautiful daughter and converted to the Christian faith of her mother. She renounced her beauty, and prayed to become ugly, so that she would not attract so many suitors leading to a forced marriage. She insisted on giving all her possessions to the poor and eventually Dubhthach, her father, realized that perhaps her disposition was best suited to the life of a nun. She is a patron of Ireland because she became the founder of the first community of religious women in Ireland. St. Bridget is also regarded as the patroness of fallen women, not because she was at any time of her life unchaste, but from the fact that the palace belonging to King Henry VIII situated in Bridewell, & was converted into a House of Correction for refractory females.
