Healing Broken Hearts--One Weekend at a Time Pope Francis said: “God is the light that illuminates the darkness, even if it does not dissolve it, and a spark of divine light is within each of us.” Sometimes situations and decisions from the past can make us feel disconnected and alone. If you have emotional or spiritual wounds as a result of a past abortion, please consider attending our upcoming Rachel’s Vineyard weekend retreat September 9-11, 2016. It’s an opportunity for women and men to experience God’s love, forgiveness and compassion. Lives are restored and peace is found. Let the Year of Mercy be the time to embrace God’s merciful love. Participation is strictly confidential. For more information, please contact Mary Huber at 909-475-5353 or [email protected], or visit the website Rachelsvineyard.org. The Office of Restorative Justice will be offering a support group, The Journey, for those who have been impacted by death through homicide or suicide. The Journey towards healing consists of 10 weekly directed small group gatherings. Each week integrates and builds upon the reflections and discussions of the previous weeks. These babies were aborted and discarded in March of 1997. They were found in a field by a group of little boys who were playing. To honor these babies, a Memorial Service (approximately one hour long) will take place at Crestlawn Memorial Park Riverside, on September 10, 2016, at 10:00 am. Please call Mandy at 951-306-9770 (English & Spanish) if you are interested in going and would like to be part of a car pool. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is calling for a Day of Prayer for Peace in our Communities on Friday, September 9, 2016. Recent months of escalating violence continues to gravely harm our local communities. As people of faith we turn to the power of prayer to shine the light of Christ into areas of darkness. Therefore, as a family you are invited to bring next weekend, September 3- 4, a candle that will be blessed at Mass. Then on Friday, September 9, 2016, as a family you will be asked to light your blessed candle in your home while offering the prayer for peace. Included with the prayer will be a reflection question for personal or family reflection. Let us all join in this National Day of Prayer for Peace in our Communities.

Life Night – Youth Room The Seed: To be with Christ means to struggle dramatically with the world, just like the Saints who were very aware of sin and its effect. These models of holiness struggled much in overcoming their weaknesses and held on to Christ because they knew that only God could save them.

In what way can you help your community in eliminating evil? Pray to your favorite saints and tell them your struggles and difficulties. Ask them to teach you to overcome your weaknesses and sinfulness.

REFLECTION The Seed: Jesus’ miracles are a manifestation of His love and mercy towards His people. Before performing a miracle, Jesus would feel pity on a sinner. Jesus’ miracles are so abundant, which means that his mercy and compassion for the suffering and the undeserving was overflowing. It also reminds us that the miracles are effects of God’s mercy upon us. Activity: How many times do you have compassion for your neighbor? We too can perform miracles if we allow mercy to reign in our hearts. Cuantas veces has sentido compasion por tu vecino? Nosotros también podemos hacer nmilagros si permitimos que la misericordia reine en nuestros corazones. Activity : Pray to your favorite saints and tell them your struggles and difficulties. Ask them to teach you to overcome your weaknesses and sinfulness.

John 11:25-26: “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the Resurrection and the Life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?’”

SAINT’S LIFE CORNER Saint John the Baptist, born 1st century BC, was a Jewish prophet of priestly origin who preached of God’s Final Judgment and Our Lord’s coming, and baptized those who repented in preparation for it. He is revered in the Christian Church as the forerunner of Jesus Christ. After a period of desert solitude, he attained notice as a prophet in the region of the lower JordanValley. He had a circle of disciples, and Jesus was among the recipients of his rite of baptism. We are blessed because St. Anthony’s has three Volunteer Catechists who graduated August 20, 2016, from the Coordinator of Ministers Formation Program, a 3-year Diocesan Formation Program : They are the following : Lena Rubi Andrade, Nancy Prush, Veronica Valle “Duc In Altum.” We are proud of you!
