WORDS TO PONDER “The Church must proclaim the Gospel of life and speak out with prophetic force against the culture of death. May the Continent of Hope also be the Continent of Life! This is our cry: life with dignity for all! For all who have been conceived in their mother’s womb, for street children, for Guadalupe!…Grant that Christian families may exemplarily raise their children in the Church’s faith and in love of the Gospel, so that they will be the seed of apostolic vocations.” Pope St. John Paul II
Posadas is an important part of Mexican Christmas traditions. These community celebrations take place on each of the nine nights leading up to Christmas, from December 16th to the 24th. The word posada means "inn" or "shelter" in Spanish, and in this tradition, Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem and their search for a place to stay is re-enacted. THE SYMBOLISM The nine nights of Posadas leading up to Christmas are said to represent the nine months that Jesus spent in Mary’s womb, or to represent a nine-day journey to Bethlehem. The nine days also fits nicely in with the concept of a traditional, nine-day novena prayer. Las Posadas is a wonderful way to deepen devotion to the Holy Family and to reflect on the mystery of the Incarnation of our Savior Jesus Christ, who was born to the holiest of families in the poorest of material circumstances.

Simbang Gabi Mass Schedule (at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church) December 16, 2017, Saturday at 6:00am: Kick-off December 17, 2017, Sunday at 6:00am December 18, 2017, Monday at 6:30pm December 19, 2017, Tuesday at 6:30pm December 20, 2017, Wednesday at 6:00am December 21, 2017, Thursday at 6:30pm December 22, 2017, Friday at 6:30pm Everyone is invited to join the Simbang Gabi Holy Mass, a Filipino tradition - 9 days Novena in preparation for the Christmas celebration! Advent is a season of hope and anticipation. All Catholics are invited to celebrate the season the Filipino way, with a nine-day Novena of Masses. Each day for nine days, Mass will be held at 5:30am, culminating with the last Mass on Dec. 24, Christmas Eve. At the final Mass, parishioners are invited to bring the Baby Jesus from their Nativity sets to be blessed. During this Christmas season, Filipinos continue to celebrate this annual Novena Mass, “Simbang Gabi,” a tradition they brought with them from the Philippines. Simbang Gabi was adapted from the Catholic Misa de Gallo, which literally means “Mass of the Rooster,” to indicate it is held when the rooster crows. This event dates back to the time when Miguel Lopez de Legazpi celebrated the first feast of the Nativity, in the year 1565 in the archipelago.

NO MASS IN THE AFTERNOON OR EVENING Merry Christmas and a Fruitful New Year to all! “The world is filled with wonderful things and experiences, but nothing here finally satisfies us.”
Story of our lady of Guadalupe Fifty-five year old Juan Diego met the Virgin Mary on the morning of December 9,1531, as he hurried to Mass near Mexico City. Speaking in the native Nahuatl, she revealed herself as “Holy Mary, Mother of the True God for Whom we live.” She requested that a chapel be built. After the local bishop refused to believe Juan, the Virgin herself arranged roses in Juan’s rough cloak. When he opened his cloak before the bishop, a miraculous image appeared of the Virgin wearing a black maternity belt and bearing the jasmine flower over her womb. The Aztec symbolism clearly showed Mary’s unborn child to be the divine center of the cosmos. Numerous volunteers constructed Mary’s chapel in less than two weeks. In seven years, eight million native people were converted. Pope John Paul II called the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe the “Marian Heart of America.” In 1999 Saint John Paul II declared Mary Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Unborn.
