Children’s Play, Learning and Development What will I study? BTEC Level 3 Children’s Play, Learning & Development provides a broad basis of study of the early years sector. This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education. It is equivalent in size to one A Level and consists of 4 units over two years of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are marked externally. The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with higher education to ensure it supports progression to higher education. In addition, employers and professional bodies have been involved in order to confirm that the content is appropriate for those interested in working in the sector. Learners will complete 50 hours work experience in the sector and will study three mandatory units which cover the following topics:  Children’s development.  Communication and numeracy.  Play and learning. Learners are able to select one optional unit, which will support their progression to specialise degree programmes in the sector and covers areas such as:  Physical development, care and health needs.  Keeping children safe.  The Early Years foundation stage.

Entry Requirements At least 5 GCSE A*-C. A-C including English and Maths.

How will I be assessed? There are 3 mandatory units that learners must complete, 1 internal and 2 external. Learners must also complete at least 1 optional unit from a choice of 4.

What will it prepare me for? If you are a people person who is interested in a career where you will have an impact on young people’s lives then this course will develop the skills you need. The course will teach you the skills, knowledge and understanding you need to work within the Children’s play and Early Year’s environment. You will be able to hone these skills during your work experience. During the course you will develop your communication skills and research skills.
