Accuplacer/CITS courses:

If a sophomore or junior is registering for a CITS course through LSC or FDLTCC, students must take the Accuplacer test and achieve passing scores before May 15, 2014. Please sign up for the Accuplacer in the guidance office and pick up a verification form before you take the test. Return the verification form immediately after finishing the test, if you have met the university requirements you will be approved for the appropriate CITS course. The testing and grade point average requirements for specific courses can be found by clicking the guidance link and the CITS course tab.

A great website to practice for the Accuplacer can be found at http://accuplacer.collegeboard.org The following are test dates set by Lake Superior College and FDLTCC, students will test on those campuses when ready for the Accuplacer.

Duluth East High School offers many classes that juniors and seniors may take for college credit through Lake Superior College, Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College, and the University of Minnesota Duluth. It is important to note that there are certain requirements for entry into a college-credit class: For all courses offered by FDLTCC, a student must have a minimum Accuplacer score of 78 on the Reading portion. For Honors Physics, a student must have a minimum Accuplacer score of 61 on the Elementary Algebra portion in addition to the Reading score. Along with these Accuplacer scores, a Junior must also possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a Senior must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 to be admitted into a class.

Courses offered by LSC are more specific: Pre-Calculus requires an Elementary Algebra score of at least 76 and a College Math score of at least 50. Honors Human Anatomy and Marketing II both require a Reading score of at least 78 as well as a Sentence Skills score of 86. Medical Terminology requires a minimum Reading score of 78. Intro to Allied Health has no testing requirements However, all courses offered by LSC require a minimum cumulative GPA in addition to Accuplacer scores: 3.0 for Juniors 2.5 for Seniors Appropriate ACT scores may take the place of the Accuplacer: Reading: 21 Writing (Sentence Skills): 18 Math: 22 Courses offered by UMD all have a requirement of a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for both Juniors and Seniors. Re-Test Policy: A student may re-test once per calendar year.
