CVHS Clubs & Organizations 2016-17: CVHS Marching Band & Color Guard: Director: Ms. Hull Marching Band are students wishing to play music while marching during CV home football games and at various marching band competitions throughout the region/state. Color Guard choreographs with band using flags and other regalia. Class 2017: Advisor:​ Mr. Mickelson The senior class officers are responsible for representing their fellow classmates in all Student Council meetings. They are also responsible for organizing all class events and competitions for both fall and Winter Homecomings (class float, Decoration Day and dress up days), the dance for the senior rally and the class senior trip. They choose graduation announcements, class motto, songs and decorations for the graduation ceremony. To be a Senior Class Officer, students must run in ASB elections held each year in March. All activities of the class are open to the entire senior class to participate. Class 2018: Advisor: ​Mr. Merchant The junior class officers are responsible for representing their fellow classmates in all Student Council meetings. They are also responsible for organizing all class events and competitions for both Fall and Winter Homecomings (class float, decoration day and dress up days) and their class dance for the Senior Rally. They also plan and organize the Junior-Senior Prom. To be a Junior Class Officer, students must run in ASB elections held each year in March. All activities of the class are open to the entire junior class to participate. Class 2019: Advisor:​ Mr. Nava The sophomore class officers are responsible for representing their fellow classmates in all Student Council meetings. They are also responsible for organizing all class events and competitions for both Fall and Winter Homecomings (class float, decoration day and dress up days) and their class dance for the Senior Rally. They also plan and organize the Winter Formal. To be a Sophomore Class Officer, students must run in ASB elections held each year in March. All activities of the class are open to the entire sophomore class to participate. Class 2020: Advisor: Ms. Galvan The freshmen class officers are responsible for representing their fellow classmates in all Student Council meetings. They are also responsible for organizing all class events and competitions for both Fall and Winter Homecomings (class float, decoration day and dress up days) and their class dance for the Senior Rally. They also plan and organize the Homecoming Dance. Freshmen Class Officers, are selected through an application process while attending middle school. All activities of the class are open to the entire freshmen class to participate. CSF Advisor: Ms. Elliott The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) emphasizes high standards of scholarship, and community service for California high school students. Founded in 1921, the California Scholarship Federation is the oldest scholastic, scholarship institution in the state of California. To be a member of CSF students must go through an application process held after each formal grading period. Contact the advisor for more details.

FFA:

Advisors: Mr. Moncrief, Mr. Traini, Mr. Mortensen, Ms. Bishop, and Ms. Rowley The FFA Organization is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. FFA members are involved in a variety of different competitions and community service projects locally and at the state and national levels. For more information contact an advisor. National Website: ​www.ffa.org GSA: Advisor: Mr. Badillo, Mrs. Estrada Gay-Straight Alliance Network is a youth leadership organization that connects school-based Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) to each other and community resources. Through peer support, leadership development, and training, GSA Network supports young people in starting, strengthening, and sustaining GSAs and builds the capacity of GSAs to: 1. create safe environments in schools for students to support each other and learn about homophobia and other oppressions, 2. educate the school community about homophobia, gender identity, and sexual orientation issues, and 3. fight discrimination, harassment, and violence in schools. National Website: ​www.gsanetwork.org HYLC: Advisor: Gomez The mission of HYLC is to develop leadership skills among its members to better serve the school and community at large. It serves the school and community by providing leadership in health, education, and cultural activities, and provides and maintains leadership training opportunities for members through school based activities. It maintains a safe and academic environment in order for all students to meet other students with the same goals and provides the opportunity for students to become socially acquainted with other students with similar goals. Lip Sync provides support for the Principal at the Lip Sync competitions to raise scholarship funds. Anyone is eligible to join. Interact Club: Advisors: Mr. Liu Interact is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 14 to 18. Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary clubs, which provide support and guidance, but they are self-governing and self-supporting. Each year, Interact clubs complete at least two community service projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill. Leadership Advisor: Mrs. Merchant ASB Leadership is a co-curricular class. Students that are in the leadership class are elected ASB and class officers. There are also appointed commissioners. ASB Leadership is responsible for overseeing all clubs on campus. They organize both Fall and Winter Homecomings, rallies and dances. To be involved in ASB Leadership students must be elected by the student body or appointed by the Executive Council of ASB. Elections are held each March for the following school year. Ambassadors: Advisors:​ ​Mrs. Groom, Mrs. Olivera An Ambassador is a high school transition program that increases freshman success. Members of the junior and senior class are trained to be Ambassadors who act as positive role models, motivators, mentors and teachers helping guide the freshmen to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to high school. As freshmen success increases, the benefits to the school culture and climate become apparent; Ambassador program schools report having greater connection, increased extracurricular participation, fewer discipline issues and greater pride and spirit. NHS: Advisor:​ Ms. Ghimenti The National Honor Society (NHS) is established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. Students who have a cumulative grade point average of 85 percent, B, 3.3 (on a 4.0 scale) or equivalent standard of excellence, or a higher cumulative average set by the local school's Faculty Council, meet the scholarship requirement for membership. Science Club: Advisor: Mrs. Selfridge and Mrs. Hoffman The Science Club fundraises to help financially support both the Science Olympiad & Science Bowl teams. The Science Olympiad is an international nonprofit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers. These goals are accomplished through classroom activities, research, and the encouragement of intramural, district, regional, state and national tournaments. The Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of team events, which students prepare for during the year. Yearbook: Advisor: Mrs. Franca The staff produces the CVHS yearbook. To do so, the staff prepares the general outline of the book in the spring, plans the pictures and text needed, and arranges for photography dates in the summer, designs layout, writes copy, and prepares pictures in the first three quarters of the school year.Some time outside of class is required. There are prerequisites for this activity.

Glee Club: Advisor: Mr. Richardson If you enjoy to sing then this club is for you. There are plenty of classes to get involved with that include you being able to show off your talent musically! S-Club: Advisor: Ms. Groom The S- Club is an organization for young men and young women who like to do service activities for both the school and the Ceres community, with a special emphasis to improve the lives of women and girls. A few more important objectives of the club is to cooperate with school authorities in creating a school environment with high standards and preparing members to assume leadership in the business and professional world. Vex Robotics: Advisor: Mr. Miller We the students in Central Valley high school to better ourselves and increase our interest in the engineering field from this club, The Vex Robotics Club. The purpose of this club is to encourage and develop interest in the Robotics and to perform at competitions around the state and hopefully at world tournament. AP Spanish Literature Club: Advisor: Mr. Martinez This club is open to AP Spanish Students only. They attend field trips, conferences, and prepare for the AP exam at the end of the year. Bass Fishing Club: Advisor: Mr. Ruiz The Bass club is open to students who would like to participate in bass fishing competitions. The club will meet and compete for scholarships. If you like to fish this is the club for you! Soccer Club: Advisor: Miss Briones, Mr. Leon The Soccer Club is dedicated to encouraging physical fitness, higher education, school spirit, and excellent citizenship. CV Matters: Advisor: Miss Gomez This club is open to all students who would like to make a difference on campus. The mission is to create a movement of individuals, committed to understanding how much they matter and to changing the world... one Day at Central Valley at a time. If you would like to be a part of making a difference on campus and in the lives of your peers this club is for you. Anime Club: Advisor: Mrs. Boyington The Amine Club is a club where high school students can do art work in the Anime Form. They meet once a month after school. They enjoy sharing their art work with their peers, and sharing techniques to make other student’s art excel. Film Appreciation: Advisor:​ Mr. Merchant Students view socially significant and award-winning films to discuss them through an academic lens such as social impact, characters, plot, musical score, directing, symbolism, etc. All students are welcome but must have parent permission to view some selected films. All films are viewed after school and are chosen by the membership.

Green Mob: Advisor: Ms. Selfridge This club is open to any student would like to show school spirit. This club will meet on Friday’s to get ready to show spirit for sporting events. They are responsible for organizing Red Ribbon week and promoting other events on campus for awareness of the problems that are associated with these habits. Video Game Club: Advisor: Mr. Olsen This club is open to any student who is interested in video games, and collaborating with students with the same interest! Political Debate Club: Advisor: Mrs. Estrada This club is for students who are interested in learning more about politics, and debating on current issues. Students will learn techniques on how to debate issues, and becoming aware of the current situations going on around the world. AP Art Club- Inactive 2015-16 School Year Advisor: Mrs. Copley The National Art Honor Society is for currently enrolled visual art students. It is to inspire and recognize those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art. Members must have a 3.0 grade point average in approved visual arts courses.

Onda Latina: Advisor: Onda Latina is a social club with the intent to educate others about the Latino culture and to celebrate its unique culture. Onda Latina participates in many activities on campus and is also involved in community service projects. All students are welcome regardless of their heritage. Each high school enters a team of nine students: 3 "A" or Honor students, 3 "B" or Scholastic students, and 3 "C" or Varsity students. Environmental Club: Advisor: The Environmental Club’s purpose is to better our school’s environment and to promote environmental awareness to the student body. The Environmental club meets once a month on

a Friday. They are involved in many community service activities, recycling programs, and activities that have to do with being environmentally aware. Animal Awareness Club: Advisor: The Animal Awareness club meets to discuss the importance of animals in society, and how we as human beings can make sure we are a part of educating society on animal cruelty. Math Club: Advisor: Mr. McCaffrey Math Club is a club that increases awareness of how mathematics impacts our everyday lives. Students who join math club will became part of a team that helps support each student with their math classes. Math Club also participates in a high-level competition at CSU Stanislaus where winners are awarded with medals, prizes, and scholarships. Multi Culture Club: Advisor: The Multi Culture club is to promote cultural diversity through music and dance. This club is open to any student and meeting times during lunch the first Tuesday of each month and after school. There will also be opportunities to raise funds for scholarships for students who are in the club.

Love Revolution: Military Club Advisor: Mr. Richards The Military Club is for all students at Central Valley High School that have an interest in the armed forces, joining or supporting. Any students are eligible to join this club. The purpose is to help answer any questions, and hold events for students who have an interest in the military.
